Brathwaite hits one hundred

Opener Kraigg Brathwaite ground out his seventh Test hundred as West Indies continued to bat Bangladesh out of the opening Test at the Vivian Richards Cricket Ground in Antigua on  Thursday.

At lunch on the second day, the Windies had reached 271 for three in their first innings – a lead of already 228 runs.

Brathwaite, resuming the day on 88 with the hosts on 201 for two, crawled to 121 not out at the break, and was partnered by Shai Hope on 14.

The right-handed Brathwaite has so far faced 289 balls and struck 11 fours.

Night watchman Devendra Bishoo was the only casualty of the session, falling for 19 in the second over following the drinks break.

Starting the day on one, the left-hander struck two fours in a 79-ball knock while adding 52 for the third wicket with Brathwaite, before missing a defensive prod and losing his off stump to speedster Kamrul Islam.

Bangladesh were dismissed on Wednesday’s opening day for 43 – their lowest-ever score in Tests and the lowest overall in nearly half a century.
