Several educational institutions across Jamaica were disrupted on Thursday morning following bomb threats.

The threats that were delivered via email prompted swift responses from law enforcement.

Emergency response engaged across some parishes

According to Jamaican media reports, Senior Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay, who spearheads the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s (JCF) Corporate Communications Unit, reported that emergency services were called to schools situated in Kingston and St. Andrew, St. Catherine, Clarendon, and Trelawny. 

Class disruptions following threats

In light of the email received, the Principal of Greater Portmore High School clarified that the institution was not the intended target. However, the school initiated an evacuation based on the message in the email.

According to reports, he said no explosive devices were found and classes are expected to resume on Friday.

Reports are that those at the Sabina Basic School in Portmore, St. Catherine have also evacuated due to its close proximity to Greater Portmore High School.

Threats to other schools

Reports from Jamaican media outlets are that threats were also issued to Immaculate Conception High in St. Andrew, Old Harbour High in St. Catherine as well as Lennon and Denbigh High schools in Clarendon.
