The police said that a freightliner truck, which was suspected to have been carrying the illicit drug, was signalled to stop, but the driver disobeyed, sped off and was pursued.

He was stopped at a roadblock and the police said the occupants engaged them in an exchange of gunfire.

The driver reportedly used the truck to attempt to mow down the cops. But the lawmen said that the truck subsequently crashed into another vehicle driven by a police officer.

The police said that the identity of the driver and the three occupants of the truck were being withheld as they continue their investigations.
