Belize strengthens diplomatic ties with Guyana through new High Commission

On June 24, 2024, a significant milestone was achieved in the diplomatic relations between Belize and Guyana as the Belize flag was hoisted at the newly inaugurated chancellery of the High Commission of Belize in the Cooperative Republic of Guyana.

The opening ceremony marked the commencement of operations at this new diplomatic outpost.

Inauguration ceremony marks a new chapter

The flag-raising ceremony, which symbolizes the official start of the High Commission's operations, was presided over by H.E. Gale Miller Garnett, the High Commissioner of Belize to Guyana.

The event was also attended by notable military personnel from Belize, including Captain Marion Hernandez, Second Lieutenant Ashley Lashawn Williams, and Lance Corporal Felecia Cal.

These soldiers, who are currently undertaking studies in Guyana, played a significant role in the day’s proceedings, highlighting the collaboration between the two nations in educational and military exchanges.

Expanding Belize’s diplomatic footprint

The establishment of Belize’s High Commission in Guyana is part of a broader strategy to enhance its diplomatic presence globally.

This move is aimed at fostering development, prosperity, and providing assistance to Belizean citizens abroad, underlining Belize’s commitment to strengthening its bilateral relationships.

The new diplomatic mission in Guyana is a testament to Belize’s dedication to its ties with South America and its efforts to promote mutual benefits through diplomatic engagements.
