In a significant stride toward universal healthcare, the Belize government has eradicated fees in public hospitals.

This progressive move aims to demolish financial barriers, enabling enhanced healthcare accessibility for every citizen, with a particular focus on aiding low-income families.

A nod to health equity

In a statement, the government shared that statistics revealed that over the previous three years, revenue arrears stemming from hospital care bills have alarmingly surged, approaching 50 per cent.

With the removal of fees, the government is committed to bolstering healthcare access, while simultaneously aiming to alleviate the overarching administrative burdens.
