Barbados takes step forward with electric buses from China
Barbados has made significant progress in its efforts to integrate electric buses into its transportation system, as it signed an Exchange of Notes agreement with the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) on Tuesday.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Kerrie Symmonds and CIDCA’s Chairman Luo Zhaohui sealed the agreement, marking a pivotal moment in Barbados’ quest to transition away from fossil fuels.
This agreement follows Barbados’ request for the donation of electric buses from China, aimed at reducing the island’s carbon footprint.
Progress in assessment and approval
According to a statement from the Barbados Government Information Service, specifications for the electric buses have already been submitted, and Chinese authorities are currently evaluating the request.
The signing of the Exchange of Notes signifies a crucial step forward in the acquisition process.
CIDCA’s role in foreign aid
CIDCA, established in March 2018, plays a vital role in formulating strategic guidelines for foreign aid and coordinating major aid initiatives.
