Commissioner of Police Sonia Boyce has received the Order of the Republic, one of Barbados' national honors, in recognition of her leadership and contributions to public safety.

President Jeffrey Bostic presented the honor to Boyce during a ceremony at State House on Oct. 8, according to the Barbados Government Information Service. She will now be known as The Honorable Sonia Boyce.

Boyce was recognized for her leadership, dedication to public service and efforts to maintain peace and public safety, build trust within communities, prevent and respond to crime, and uphold law and order.

In accepting the honor, Boyce thanked God and the president and dedicated the award to the men and women of the Barbados Police Service.

The commissioner, who said Sunday would mark her 100th day in office, acknowledged that her tenure had presented challenges but said she had been able to build on existing policing strategies with some adjustments.

“When I took office, I promised all citizens to maintain and sustain the public trust,” Boyce said, adding that feedback she had received suggested she was beginning to achieve that goal.

She pledged to continue serving Barbadians with integrity and pride.

The 2026 national honor was conferred in accordance with Section 4(1) of the Barbados National Honours and Decorations Act, 2021, which establishes the Order of Barbados.
