Gardiner finished behind pre-race favorite and world record holder Wayde Van Niekerk of South Africa who continued his rich run of form. Botswana’s Adalelah Haroun finished third and earned the bronze medal.
The other Caribbean nationals in the final, Jamaicans Nathon Allen and Demish Gaye, finished fifth and sixth respectively.
Tracy qualifies for final in style
Meanwhile, Jamaica’s Ristannana Tracy continued a long Caribbean tradition by qualifying for the finals of the women’s 400 meters hurdles at the London World Championships on Tuesday.
Competing in her fourth world championships at the tender age of 22, Tracy showed maturity beyond her years to win her semi-final and place herself in pole position to make the medal podium when the finals are sent off by the starter’s gun on Thursday.
Faces stiff competition
The Jamaican ran a well-timed raced to signal to the world that she is ready for the big stage. However, she will have to pull out all the stops to bring home a medal as she faces stiff competition from the American trio of Dalilah Mohammad, Kori Carter, and Cassandra Tate. Her biggest threat will, however, come from Zuzana Hejnova of the Check Republic who qualified with the fastest time.
