Antiguan student passes 15 CSEC subjects

An Antiguan student, Eric Emmanuel Joseph Jr. h been named the top student in the June, 2017 sitting of the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examination.

Joseph of Baptist Academy wrote and passed 15 subjects, securing 13 grade ones and 2 grade twos.

8,803students sat exam this year

This year, a total of 8,803 entries were recorded among Caribbean public and private schools, with an overall percentage pass of 73.3 compared to 9, 404 and 74.2 percent respectively in 2016.

The Antiguan Ministry of Education, Science and Technology said in a release that that it has removed all restrictions so that candidates can access their results online. Results should be available, pending release from the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC). Candidates are advised to keep trying if they are unsuccessful.

Hard copies of results are expected next week and will be sent to schools for distribution to students.

Higher passes this year

A preliminary analysis of the results of the 2017 Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examination shows higher pass rates and an increase in Grade Ones awarded.

A breakdown of this year’s results was presented at a conference at the Education Towers, St Vincent Street, Port-of-Spain on Friday by Chief Education Officer Harrilal Seecharan. It was noted that there were increases in the pass rates in 16 subject areas. This included an increase in the very important English Language subject.
