Bermuda’s newly appointed Governor, Andrew Murdoch, has arrived on the island ahead of officially assuming his duties. Murdoch touched down at L.F. Wade International Airport last evening on a British Airways flight from the United Kingdom. Government House shared that he was given “a very warm Bermudian welcome” by a group of dignitaries, including Premier David Burt, who were on hand to greet him at the airport.

Murdoch is set to be sworn in as the island’s new governor today.

Mr. Murdoch brings extensive experience to his new role, having served as the Director of Ocean Policy at the Foreign Office and its Legal Director. Prior to his work with the Foreign Office, he had a distinguished career in the Royal Navy, where he served for over 20 years, eventually rising to the rank of Commander and Head of Operations at the Directorate of Naval Legal Services.

He replaces Rena Lalgie, who was the territory’s first female governor and also the first person of African ancestry to be the de-facto head of state of Bermuda.
