Jamaica's national 800m record holder, Navasky Anderson, has reached a significant milestone in his academic journey by graduating from Mississippi State University with a Master's Degree.
The graduation ceremony took place recently, marking a momentous occasion in Anderson's life.
Anderson made history in the world of athletics by becoming the first and only Jamaican man to break the sub-1:45.00 barrier when he achieved a remarkable time of 1:44.70 at the DC Track Championships in July. His collegiate journey began at Essex Community College in 2019 before he transferred to Mississippi State University in 2020.

In an Instagram post on Friday, Anderson expressed his gratitude and reflected on his time at Mississippi State University, saying, "My time at Mississippi State University has been nothing short of transformative, thanks to the exceptional support from both the athletics and academia staff."
He emphasized the delicate balance required to juggle the demands of coursework and the rigor of track and field and acknowledged that collaboration between the athletic and academic realms played a crucial role in his success.
During his tenure at Mississippi State University, Anderson achieved notable accomplishments. He secured the 800m silver medal at the 2022 NCAA Division 1 Outdoor Championships and proudly represented Jamaica on the international stage. One of his standout achievements was winning a bronze medal at the Pan American Games held in Chile in November of the same year.
Proudly wore the Jamaican colors
The 23-year-old athlete, formerly a student at St. Jago, proudly wore the Jamaican colors at the 2022 and 2023 World Championships in Eugene and Budapest, respectively, as well as the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, where he finished fifth in the final.
