20 Jamaican youths to receive Prime Minister’s National Youth Award for Excellence
In a celebration of youthful achievement, approximately 20 Jamaican youths are poised to receive the prestigious 2023 Prime Minister’s National Youth Award for Excellence (PMNYAE).
The ceremony, set to take place on April 20th amidst the verdant surroundings of Jamaica House, is scheduled to commence at 5:00 p.m.
A select cohort from a pool of talent
Handpicked from a pool of over 100 applicants, the award recipients represent a formidable selection process.
From the initial applicants, a cohort of 40 individuals emerged after a stringent evaluation process, including intensive interviews and social interaction events.
According to Fabian Brown, Chairman of the PMNYAE Selection Committee, the caliber of applications submitted left an indelible impression.
Brown expressed admiration and encouragement for the exceptional talent displayed by Jamaica’s youth, asserting that the nation can confidently entrust its future to these remarkable individuals.
Parallels with national honours and awards
Drawing a parallel with the esteemed National Honours and Awards, held annually in October, Brown emphasized the PMNYAE as the pinnacle of recognition for young achievers.
Reflecting on the breadth of categories encompassed by the award, Brown underscored its significance as the highest honor the country bestows upon its youthful trailblazers.

Categories include sports, agriculture, youth development practitioner, arts and culture, academics, leadership, journalism/social media influencer, entrepreneurship, nation-building, international achievement, innovation in science and technology, and environmental protection.
In addition to these categories, a special Prime Minister’s Special Award will be presented to an individual or organization demonstrating exceptional prowess in their respective domain.
