Cayman Airways to launch seasonal nonstop flights between Grand Cayman and Austin

cayman airways

Cayman Airways has announced a new seasonal summer nonstop service between Grand Cayman and Austin, Texas, further expanding its U.S. network and strengthening air connectivity to the Cayman Islands.

Subject to regulatory approval, the route is scheduled to begin on May 24, 2026, and run through August 16, 2026. The service will operate weekly on Sundays, giving travellers in Central Texas a direct and convenient option to visit the Cayman Islands during the peak summer travel period. Tickets will go on sale from January 30 via the airline’s website.

Austin becomes the latest U.S. city added to Cayman Airways’ growing route map, supporting the national carrier’s mandate to stimulate tourism and promote economic development. In addition to boosting inbound travel, the new service is expected to benefit Cayman residents by providing a nonstop gateway to Central Texas, reducing the need to connect through major U.S. hub airports for business travel, education, and visits to friends and family.

Tourism Minister Gary Rutty said the new route targets a market with strong growth potential. “Austin is a fast-growing market, and introducing direct connectivity allows us to convert proven interest into actual arrivals. I look forward to this route strengthening the Cayman Islands’ presence in the U.S.A. and delivering real benefits for our tourism economy,” Rutty said.

Paul Tibbetts, executive vice president for Commercial Affairs and chief financial officer for Cayman Airways, noted that data analysis carried out with the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism identified Austin as one of the largest unserved U.S. markets for Cayman travel, with particularly strong summer demand. He added that the nonstop service would offer greater convenience and significant travel time savings for passengers.

Director of Tourism Rosa Harris also welcomed the announcement, describing the route as a key part of the destination’s U.S. growth strategy. “This route plays an important role in our tourism strategy as it increases connectivity from Texas, one of our top source markets in the United States,” Harris said.

The Austin service is the latest addition to Cayman’s expanding roster of direct flights to the U.S. In December 2025, JetBlue and Spirit Airlines launched seasonal nonstop services from Fort Lauderdale to Grand Cayman, while Delta Air Lines began direct flights to New York and Detroit. Porter Airlines also started seasonal nonstop routes from Toronto and Ottawa in the same month.

Joy Spence: Jamaica’s master blender makes Forbes 50 Over 50 Global List

Joy Spence

Joy Spence, the legendary master blender at Appleton Estate, is the only Jamaican—and the only Caribbean representative—on Forbes’ 2026 50 Over 50 Global list. The list recognizes leaders, founders, creators, and innovators from 36 countries who are reshaping industries, breaking records, and creating solutions that impact millions worldwide.

At 74 years old, Spence’s career is a testament to resilience and excellence. As Forbes notes:

“Like many of the world’s best spirits, Joy Spence’s career has only improved with time. The 74-year-old is a legend in the rum industry, and for good reason: Nearly three decades ago, Appleton Estate named her master blender—the first woman in the spirits industry to hold the title—and she remains the guardian of Jamaica’s oldest distillery’s blending tradition. A trained chemist with a flair for refined flavor, she has produced more than 30 unique rums, wines and liqueurs. In 2018, Spence received Jamaica’s National Medal for Science and Technology, and today, visitors to the Kingston distillery can journey through the Joy Spence Rum Experience to learn more about the life and legacy of Jamaica’s pioneering master blender.”

The list also features actress Penélope Cruz, advocate Gisèle Pelicot, Democratic Republic of the Congo’s first female Prime Minister Judith Suminwa Tuluka, and British beauty entrepreneur Charlotte Tilbury, among others.

Born in Manchester in 1951 and raised in Kingston by her adoptive parents, Spence discovered her love for chemistry at just 13. She pursued her passion academically, earning First Class Honors at the University of the West Indies in 1972 and a master’s degree in analytical chemistry from Loughborough University in England.

Spence began her career as a research and development chemist at Tia Maria before joining J. Wray and Nephew Ltd., the parent company of Appleton Estate. Hired as chief chemist in 1981, she worked alongside Owen Tulloch, the master blender at the time, who recognized her exceptional organoleptic talent, the rare ability to detect and differentiate subtle aromas. After 17 years of mentorship, she was promoted to master blender, creating her first signature rum for Appleton Estate’s 250th anniversary, which received widespread industry praise. Since then, she has crafted special blends for distinguished figures including Ronald Reagan, Prince William, and Prince Harry.

Beyond blending, Spence has played a pivotal role in promoting Jamaican rum globally, including helping Appleton Estate achieve geographical indication status in 2016. She also serves as brand ambassador—traveling roughly 40% of the year—and general manager for technical and quality service.

Her contributions have earned her numerous honors, including the National Medal for Science and Technology (2018), Commander of the Order of Distinction (2017), and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Distilled Spirits Council of the U.S. (2022). Appleton Estate celebrates her legacy through the Joy Spence Rum Experience, a tour of the distillery dedicated to her life and career, and special edition rums such as the Joy Anniversary Blend and Ruby Anniversary Edition, marking 20 and 40 years as master blender, respectively.

Married with two children, Spence continues to inspire future generations, proving that passion, skill, and perseverance can leave a global mark. With this Forbes recognition, the world is reminded that Jamaica’s influence stretches far beyond music and sport, into the refined art of rum-making led by one of its brightest trailblazers.

Sean Paul scores his first diamond hit with ‘Cheap Thrills’

Dancehall star Sean Paul has reached a major milestone: his 2016 collaboration with Australian singer Sia, “Cheap Thrills,” has been certified 11× platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), marking over 11 million units sold — the first time the artist has achieved diamond-plus status for a single.

The hit remix, which transformed Sia’s 2015 track “Trills” into a tropical-pop powerhouse, topped the Billboard Hot 100 for four weeks and dominated the all-genre Radio Songs chart for eight weeks — Paul’s longest run since his feature on Beyoncé’s 2003 smash “Baby Boy.” The track also earned both artists their first Grammy nominations in the best pop/duo group performance category and finished No. 66 on the Billboard Hot 100’s 2010s Decade-End chart.

Sean Paul first broke onto the Billboard charts in 2000 with hits like “Gimme the Light,” “Get Busy,” and “Temperature,” building more than two decades of cross-genre success. His 2002 album Dutty Rock won a Grammy for best reggae album and became his first top 10 project on the Billboard 200. On the Hot 100, Paul has achieved four No. 1 singles and 10 top 10 hits, with “Cheap Thrills” marking his first chart-topping single in over a decade.

Over the past several years, Paul has remained active, releasing two consecutive Grammy-nominated albums — Live n Livin (2021) and Scorcha (2022) — which reached Nos. 9 and 6 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart. In December, he co-headlined the Jamaica Strong benefit concert in New York for Hurricane Melissa relief, dropping a new anthem, “Faith We A Keep,” on the same day.

With 2016 nostalgia surging across social media, the diamond certification of “Cheap Thrills” highlights the enduring global appeal of Sean Paul’s infectious dancehall sound.

Haile Mika’el Cujo: An independent Westmoreland politician with a new constitutional proposal

Haile Mika’el Cujo

On my first visit back home to Jamaica since Hurricane Melissa ravaged sections of Westmoreland, St. Elizabeth, St. James, and other parts of western Jamaica, I did not expect a chance encounter on the streets of Sav-la-Mar to turn into a deep reasoning on constitutional reform, identity, and power. But that is exactly what happened when I met Haile Mika’el Cujo.

Cujo is a frequent independent candidate in Jamaican local government elections, representing the Whitehouse division in Westmoreland.

I stopped Haile Mika’el simply because he was walking barefoot through the town. In all my years as a journalist and radio host, the only other Jamaican I had ever seen do this consistently was radio host Mutabaruka. What I initially thought might be a homeless, mentally disturbed individual quickly turned into a deep, prolonged conversation about Jamaica and constitutional reform with Haile Mika’el.

“I’m Haile Mika’el Cujo,” he answered confidently when asked who he was. “I’m many things to many people, including being a constitutional lawyer.”

From that opening line, it was clear Mika’el was anything but aimless. Intelligent, articulate, charismatic, and deeply engaged with Jamaica’s political future, he immediately began outlining the work that has defined his public life in recent years: a proposed new constitution for Jamaica.

“I’ve written a proposed constitution for the Republic of Jamaica called ‘We the People Proposed Constitution of Republic of Jamaica,’” he said. “This document that I have proposed is a public document since July 26, 2021, when I sent the first draft to Parliament.”

According to Mika’el, every member of Parliament, including Prime Minister Andrew Holness, received the document. Yet, he says, none have meaningfully engaged him.

“All the parliamentarians got it from July 26, 2021, and they have not responded to me,” he said.

Mika’el is critical of the official constitutional reform process. He points to the creation of the Ministry of Legal and Constitutional Affairs and the Constitutional Reform Committee as developments that followed his submission, but which, in his view, ignored his work.

“After three years and spending $3 billion in April of 2025, the Prime Minister said that the process has failed,” Mika’el noted. “I told him that they are all to be blamed.”

At the heart of Mika’el’s proposal is a radical shift in sovereignty.

“This document gives the sovereignty to the people of Jamaica,” he said. “It removes it from the British monarchy. We would now own the country under this document.”

A key feature of his constitution is the formal recognition of the Maroons as Jamaica’s indigenous people, with guaranteed political representation.

“The indigenous people, known as the Maroons, they have their rights to their land as from ancient times because they were here before Christopher Columbus,” Mika’el said.

He cites Belize as a regional precedent, where indigenous land rights and parliamentary representation are constitutionally protected. The proposed constitution also introduces mechanisms for accountability and economic reform.

“This document also allows for impeachment of elected officials who are found to be wanted, meaning that they are corrupt,” he said. “It also opens up the land.”

Under his proposal, a restructured ministry would eliminate squatting by making land and housing accessible, while renewable energy would become a national priority.

“We wouldn’t have to be paying for LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas – a cleaner fuel source used to diversify the country’s energy mix away from expensive oil) and all of these things,” Mika’el argued. “We use sunshine, water, wind to generate electricity. I’ve also heard that the vibration from the earth makes electricity, so we could explore that as well.”

Beach access, another long-standing public issue, is also addressed.

“This document gives us access to everything that is ours in this country,” he said.

Despite resistance from elected officials, Mika’el says ordinary Jamaicans are responding positively.

“They are gravitating toward it,” he said. “It’s the elected officials who are opposing it.”

He rejects arguments that constitutional change must strictly follow the existing 1962 framework.

“Who made those laws?” he asked pointedly. “These English people who came down here as pirates and robbed the country… and then we have to follow their rule of law? No, we need to get rid of their rule of law.”

Mika’el describes his vision as peaceful but transformative.

“I’ve been saying this is a bloodless revolution,” he said. “All it needs is the 63 people who were elected by the people of Jamaica to sign this document and bring it into effect on National Heroes Day, 2026.”

His barefoot presence, which first caught my attention, is deeply symbolic to him. A member of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, Mika’el explained that his name is spiritual as well as ancestral.

“Haile Mika’el is my baptismal name,” he said. “It means the power of the archangel Saint Michael. Cujo is my great-great-great-grandfather’s name. He was stolen from Africa and sold here as a slave.”

He also challenged social norms around footwear and respectability.

“The people on the coat of arms, they don’t wear shoes,” he said. “We are in a barefoot country.”

When asked how long he has lived this way, his answer was simple and grounded in Jamaican childhood.

“This is nothing new,” he said. “We have been walking barefoot from when we were little children… running up and down on the beaches. And it’s natural.”

He named dub poet Oku Onuora, the “father of Jamaican dub poetry,” as the inspiration for walking barefoot.

“He’s the first dub poet. He has been barefoot from a long time. His beard is whiter than mine. White like this shama that I am wearing,” he proudly shared.

He spoke of places he has been prevented from entering because of his decision not to wear shoes.

“People locking me out of KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) and Burger King, saying that I have to have on shoes on. Even in the Westmoreland Municipal Corporation, the security guard say I can’t come inside without shoes. Stupidness! We are in a barefoot country. Furthermore, at Emancipation Park, there’s a statue of two naked people. So we all have a right to walk naked or they should take down the statue!” he declared.

“We can’t have this hypocritical situation going on in the country. It’s confusing for the little children,” he reasoned.

As for Prime Minister Andrew Holness, Mika’el says his message has already been delivered.

“I have made an application in his office to see him to discuss constitution change,” he said. “So I’m waiting for him to invite me for that meeting, so we can go about getting Jamaica on track to do what is good and proper for our country.”

As he continues refining his constitutional proposal, now in its 19th revision, Haile Mika’el Cujo remains grounded—barefoot in Sav-la-Mar, but firmly standing on his belief that Jamaica’s future must be shaped by “we the people.”

Doctor among three charged in alleged $600m fraud targeting financial institutions

Jamaica scam moca nigerians

A 30-year-old medical doctor is among three people charged in connection with what law enforcement authorities describe as an elaborate fraud scheme that allegedly netted hundreds of millions of dollars from several financial institutions.

The Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA) said the alleged fraud is valued at “hundreds of millions of dollars,” with both The Jamaica Gleaner and Jamaica Observer reporting the figure at approximately JMD$600 million.

MOCA has charged Chloe Douett, a medical doctor of Cherry Gardens, St. Andrew, with uttering forged documents, demanding property on forged documents, conspiracy to defraud, and failure to safely store a firearm.

The other two accused — 29-year-old Ivana Campbell, an executive assistant of Cedar Grove, Portmore, St. Catherine, and 44-year-old Dwayne Pitter, an unemployed man of Olympic Gardens, St. Andrew — were charged by the Financial Investigations Division (FID). They face multiple counts under the Proceeds of Crime Act, the Larceny Act, the Forgery Act, the Law Reform (Fraudulent Transactions) (Special Provisions) Act, as well as conspiracy to defraud at common law.

MOCA announced the arrests on Wednesday, noting that Pitter was arrested at his residence on January 14, while Campbell and Douett were arrested in Portmore and Montego Bay on January 16 and January 14, respectively.

In a statement issued Saturday, MOCA said the three suspects were arrested following “a series of coordinated operations across several parishes between January 13 and 16.”

“The three suspects who were nabbed following a series of coordinated operations across several parishes between January 13 and 16, are alleged to have carried out an elaborate and highly sophisticated multimillion-dollar fraud scheme between January 2023 and April 2024, through the submission of fraudulently obtained genuine documents and fraudulent identification documents,” MOCA said.

“The three allegedly assumed the identities of multiple individuals with varying occupations to bypass security protocols and identity confirmation measures at a number of institutions in the financial sector,” the agency added.

MOCA said the operations were conducted jointly with the FID, with support from the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigation Branch, as well as the Montego Bay and Ferry police. A motor vehicle was reportedly seized during the operations.

According to Major Basil Jarrett, MOCA’s director of communications, the arrests represent “a major breakthrough in a very unique fraud case” that has been under investigation for more than 18 months.

“This is one of the most elaborate, complex, and brazen fraud schemes we have seen to date. The suspects relied on unprecedented levels of identity manipulation to defeat institutional safeguards and defraud legitimate financial institutions of hundreds of millions of dollars,” Jarrett said.

Jarrett added that the development underscores MOCA’s capacity to pursue complex financial crimes.

“These arrests mark a significant breakthrough in the investigation and are the result of sustained intelligence work and careful financial analysis by MOCA, the FID, and our partners,” he said.

He also cautioned that the investigation remains active.

“Financial crime networks and activities of this nature and magnitude are rarely limited to a single set of actors,” Jarrett said. “Notwithstanding these arrests and charges, the investigation continues and remains dynamic and fluid.”

Antigua and Barbuda approves full digital upgrade of immigration system

antigua

The Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda has approved a comprehensive technological overhaul of the country’s immigration infrastructure, clearing the way for the introduction of automated electronic gates, or e-gates, at all air and sea ports.

The decision, announced following the weekly post-Cabinet meeting, signals a move toward a fully digital border management system. Under the new framework, travellers will be able to process their own entry by swiping electronic passports at automated kiosks, replacing traditional manual immigration checkpoints.

Director General of Communications Maurice Merchant said the upgrade is aimed at improving efficiency while modernising the country’s ports of entry.

“This is a direct response to the need for increased efficiency and modernization,” Merchant said. “We will introduce electronic gates, or e-gates, whereby you take your passport, you swipe, and you go.”

According to Merchant, the upgraded system will feature enhanced passenger screening, automated processing of traveller information and seamless integration across both air and sea ports.

Beyond improving passenger flow, the government is placing a strong emphasis on national security. The system will incorporate expanded fingerprint databases, biometric matching and watch list functionality that synchronises in real time with international aviation and law enforcement platforms.

“This is about more than just speed; it is about the integrity of our borders,” Merchant said. “By utilizing real-time data and biometric matching, we are ensuring that Antigua and Barbuda remains a hostile environment for those who seek to circumvent our laws, while remaining a welcoming one for legitimate travellers.”

Merchant noted that the technology is designed to be fully integrated, ensuring a consistent experience regardless of the point of entry.

“Whether a traveller is arriving by air at V.C. Bird International or by sea at one of our heritage quays, the security protocols and the ease of entry remain exactly the same,” he said.

The system will also include upgraded reporting tools and integration with international law enforcement and aviation platforms, supporting compliance with International Civil Aviation Organization standards and accommodating future developments such as next-generation e-passports.

Merchant added that the technology is designed to be future-proof, extending automated processing to maritime arrivals as well as airports, and ensuring uniform security standards across both islands.

Deployment of the new system is expected to begin shortly, with the government aiming for a seamless transition that minimises disruption to existing travel schedules.

Leoda Bradshaw fails to participate in mediation after being allegedly assaulted in custody

An attempt at mediation in the assault case involving murder accused Leoda Bradshaw failed on Wednesday in the St. Catherine Parish Court after Bradshaw declined to participate.

During the hearing, attorney-at-law Fabian Campbell, who represents the accused, Kilfer Gilchrist, requested that the matter be referred to mediation. While Gilchrist agreed, Bradshaw, who is the complainant, was seen signaling her refusal to her attorney, Kelly Hamilton.

Parish Court Judge Geneta Smikle subsequently postponed the matter and ordered that both Bradshaw and Gilchrist be further remanded until March 3.

The case arises from allegations that Bradshaw was assaulted by Gilchrist while both women were detainees at the Bridgeport police lock-ups in Portmore, St. Catherine. An investigation into the incident led to Gilchrist’s arrest and charge for assault.

Bradshaw remains in custody in connection with a separate and high-profile matter now before the Home Circuit Court. She is accused of being the mastermind behind the killing of 27-year-old Toshyna Patterson and her 10-month-old daughter, Sarayah Paulwell, the child of People’s National Party Member of Parliament Phillip Paulwell.

Bradshaw, a former U.S. Navy petty officer who shares a child with Paulwell, has been charged with two counts each of capital murder, conspiracy to murder, kidnapping and conspiracy to kidnap.

According to prosecutors, Patterson and her infant daughter were abducted from their home on Gilmour Drive in St. Andrew on September 9, 2023. They were allegedly taken to east Kingston, where they were killed and their bodies burned.

Bradshaw has pleaded not guilty to the charges. A possible trial period in the murder case has been set for September 26 to November 23.

Ardenne Optima 5K targets wellness center and hurricane recovery efforts

It was all smiles at the launch of the third Ardenne Optima 5K on the school compound recently. (From left) Sian Wilson, Principal of Calabar High, Maurice Smith, Olympian, Chanice Wilson, Executive Director of the Barita Foundation, Christopher Taylor, Olympian, Flo Darby, President of the Ardenne Alumni Foundation, Esther Tyson, Director of the Ardenne Alumni Foundation, and Brandon Simpson, Olympian.

The third staging of the Ardenne Alumni Foundation Optima 5K Run, set for Sunday, February 1, is shaping up to be the most consequential edition of the event since its inception.

More than a traditional fundraiser, this year’s run/walk is designed to deliver a dual impact, advancing wellness infrastructure at Ardenne High School while extending critical support to Westwood High School following hurricane devastation.

Launch signals expanded vision

At the official launch held recently on the Ardenne campus, organizers announced that proceeds from the event will be directed toward the construction of a long-planned wellness center. In parallel, a portion of the funds will assist Ardenne’s sister institution, Westwood High School, where several buildings, including boarding facilities, were severely damaged by Hurricane Melissa last October.

Flo Darby, Chair of the Ardenne Alumni Foundation, outlined the anticipated construction timeline, noting that early groundwork is expected to begin within the first quarter of the year.

“We hope to start building maybe in the first three months of this year. We hope that we will start something, not necessarily putting down the building, the foundation, but at least start it,” Darby said.

The wellness center is envisioned as a shared resource, serving not only Ardenne students but also students from outside the institution, expanding its reach beyond the school’s gates.

A centennial target

Darby also emphasized the symbolic importance of completing the project in alignment with a historic milestone.

“Ardenne will celebrate 100 years next year, so this will be a great celebration. We hope to complete the building for our centenary or at least at the end of our centenary year, which is next year. We need everybody on board to make this a reality,” she explained.

Meeting the financial challenge

Acting Principal Jacqueline Pinto expressed optimism that this year’s fundraising target can be achieved, underscoring the broader educational significance of the project.

“My expectation for this year’s 5K run/walk is that we can indeed meet the $64 million target that we need to commence and conclude the construction of a wellness center. This is really needed in our education system so that we can help our students to develop and become well-responsible citizens in Jamaica, so that they can contribute effectively to national productivity and development,” Pinto said.

Continued support for Westwood High

Pinto also reaffirmed Ardenne’s long-standing commitment to Westwood High School, noting that the relationship dates back more than two decades.

“Part of the proceeds from our run/walk is to our sister school, Westwood High. They were severely damaged by Hurricane Melissa, where their boarding facilities were also negatively impacted. So, we hope that we will raise enough funds to assist our sister school,” she said.

She added that Ardenne has provided support since around 2000, including hosting Westwood students in Grades 12 and 13 prior to the establishment of their sixth form, and accommodating displaced students during the first term following Hurricane Melissa.

Athletes champion mental well-being

Ardenne’s most celebrated athletics alumnus, Olympian Brandon Simpson, lent his voice to the cause, highlighting the urgent need for mental health support within schools.

“Initiatives like this are really powerful because I do believe that we don’t have a lot of support for students or athletes,” Simpson said.

“I think there’s a lot of pressure in the school system, especially for student athletes. I think it’s really important to find a solution for that. This is going to be an awesome solution for the pressure that athletes face, and students face as well.”

National athletes endorse the vision

Olympian Christopher Taylor, a Calabar High alumnus, also endorsed the initiative after attending the launch.

“When I attended this launch today, I heard that they are building a wellness center at Ardenne, in a high school. I am really big on wellness and mental health, so I am fully in support of this, and I am really looking forward to it,” Taylor said.

The Optima 5K Run will start and finish on the Ardenne Road campus, taking participants along Trafalgar Road before looping eastward back to the school. Organizers are targeting at least 1,000 participants this year, after narrowly missing that mark in 2025.

Sara Misir opens 2026 E1 season with Jeddah victory, shines in Aoki Racing debut

Sara Misir

JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia — Jamaica’s motorsport pioneer Sara Misir opened the 2026 UIM E1 World Championship in emphatic fashion, capturing victory at the E1 Jeddah Grand Prix and earning the prestigious Pilot of the Day honor after a composed, high-pressure performance in the season opener.

Racing on the Red Sea, Misir delivered a calm and calculated drive throughout the finals, navigating a demanding weekend to secure her first Grand Prix win of the new season. The triumph not only set the early tone for the championship but also marked her first victory driving for Aoki Racing Team, debuting their signature pink livery on the sport’s biggest stage.

“Today was incredible, my first win in pink, and I was honoured to bring it home for the Aoki Racing Team,” Misir said.

“It was a tough weekend with plenty of challenges, but we stayed focused, kept our heads in the game, and got it done. Huge credit to my co-pilot Dani Clos and everyone behind the scenes. Next stop: Lake Como, April 24.”

Pilot of the Day recognition

Misir’s performance earned her the Pilot of the Day award, recognizing her consistency, race intelligence, and execution across the finals as she helped secure overall victory for the team. The accolade underscored her growing reputation as one of the championship’s most reliable and strategic drivers.

The win further cemented Misir’s standing as one of Jamaica’s most accomplished international athletes, continuing to blaze a trail for Caribbean competitors in the world’s premier all-electric powerboat racing series.

A new chapter with Aoki Racing

The Jeddah triumph came just days after Misir was officially announced as a new driver for Aoki Racing Team ahead of the 2026 season. She joined the team following an impressive rookie campaign in 2025 with Team Blue Rising, where she finished third overall in the championship.

Now partnered with former Formula One test driver Dani Clos, Misir forms part of a driver pairing widely regarded as a serious title contender. The chemistry between the two was evident from the opening round, as the team executed a flawless race weekend under pressure.

“I’m incredibly excited to be part of Aoki Racing,” Misir said.
“The Aoki family’s history of racing excellence and passion aligns perfectly with my own values as a racer. I’m proud to help represent the legacy in the E1 Series and push new limits.”

Momentum built on a breakthrough year

The start to the 2026 season builds directly on a landmark year for Misir, who was recently recognized with multiple national honors for her performances in 2025. She was named RJR/Gleaner Breakthrough Athlete of the Year, first runner-up for Sportswoman of the Year, and Yachtswoman of the Year, awards that reflected her rapid rise on the global stage.

Notably, Jeddah also holds personal significance for Misir. It was at the same venue in 2025 that she made her E1 debut and claimed her first career podium, making this latest victory a full-circle moment in her championship journey.

Breaking barriers on a global stage

Misir remains the first and only professional female race car driver from Jamaica, a distinction she continues to reinforce through her success across both car and powerboat racing. Competing in the UIM E1 World Championship, Aoki Racing fields the all-electric RaceBird hydrofoil boats owned by international DJ and entrepreneur Steve Aoki.

With early momentum secured, the championship now shifts to Europe, with Round Two scheduled for April 24-25 at Lake Como, Italy. Misir and Aoki Racing will arrive carrying confidence, points, and a clear statement of intent as the title race begins to take shape.

Sir Clive Lloyd sees strong World Cup path for West Indies, calls for team camp

CWI congratulates Sir Clive Lloyd
Sir Clive Lloyd.

GEORGETOWN, Guyana — Legendary former West Indies captain Sir Clive Lloyd believes the regional side is well positioned to challenge for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, expressing confidence that the team has the talent and balance required to mount a serious campaign.

The West Indies will be chasing a record third T20 World Cup title when the tournament, co-hosted by Sri Lanka and India, gets underway on February 7. The upcoming edition also represents an opportunity for redemption following the team’s exit at the Super Six stage of the 2024 tournament.

A group filled with opportunity

Drawn in Group C, the West Indies will face England, Nepal, Italy, and Scotland in the opening phase. Scotland were elevated into the group after Bangladesh withdrew from the competition, declining to travel to India for their scheduled opening matches.

Sir Clive views the group as one that offers opportunity rather than intimidation, provided the team executes effectively from the outset.

Faith in the T20 skill set

Speaking during an interview on Isports 195.5 FM on Thursday, Lloyd said the West Indies possess a strong core of T20 specialists capable of matching any opponent in the field.

“…I think we have a good chance. I don’t see why we can’t do well.

“I think most of the team is pretty good and well versed as far as T20s are concerned and we have some good strikers of the ball. It’s just getting the right formation,” he explained.

The case for a pre-tournament camp

While Cricket West Indies has not yet named its World Cup squad, Lloyd stressed the importance of preparation beyond individual form, advocating for a dedicated team camp ahead of the tournament.

Drawing on his own experience, he said time spent together off the field can be just as critical as technical readiness.

“I would like to see the guys playing together for like two weeks in a camp, somewhere where they can discuss all the tactics of one-day cricket, give them a chance to run between the wickets with one another, let them bowl together and be a team,” Lloyd said.

Lessons from a golden era

Sir Clive reflected on the cohesion that defined West Indies teams during his playing days, noting that familiarity and trust often proved decisive under pressure.

“I think we were lucky when I was playing. Our One-Day team wasn’t too far off from our Test team, so the guys were playing together, and they got to know one another quite well. In tight situations you knew who to bowl or who to send out to bat,” he added.

As the countdown to February 7 continues, Lloyd’s message is clear: with talent already in place, unity, preparation, and clarity of roles could determine whether the West Indies convert potential into another historic T20 World Cup triumph.

Bangladesh removed from T20 World Cup as ICC holds firm on schedule

Bangladesh cricket

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — The International Cricket Council (ICC) has removed Bangladesh from next month’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, confirming that Scotland will take their place following the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s refusal to send its team to India.

The global tournament, co-hosted by Sri Lanka and India, is scheduled to run from February 7 to March 8. Bangladesh’s withdrawal marks one of the most significant pre-tournament developments in recent World Cup history.

Decision communicated by email

According to reports from ESPNcricinfo, the ICC formally notified the Bangladesh Cricket Board by email on Friday evening, after the BCB advised that the Bangladesh government had not granted approval for the team to travel to India for the competition.

The ICC also circulated the decision to its board members via email, outlining the basis for the ruling.

“The BCB is not agreeable to playing the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 per the match schedule with their matches in India. We are, therefore, going ahead with the board decision to replace Bangladesh in the tournament,” the ICC stated in the correspondence.

Emergency meeting set the course

The decision followed an emergency ICC board meeting held by video conference on Wednesday. During that meeting, a majority of directors voted in favor of replacing Bangladesh if the BCB continued to insist that its matches be relocated entirely to Sri Lanka.

In a statement issued afterward, the ICC said altering the schedule at such a late stage was not a viable option.

The board agreed it would not be “feasible” to revise the tournament structure “so close” to the start date.

Concerns over precedent and neutrality

The ICC further explained that accommodating Bangladesh’s request, without evidence of a credible security threat, could have far-reaching implications.

Board members expressed the view that changing the schedule in the “absence of any credible security threat” in India could “set a precedent that would jeopardize the sanctity of future ICC events and undermine its neutrality as a global governing body.”

Scotland slotted into Group C

Bangladesh had been drawn in Group C alongside West Indies, England, Nepal, and Italy. They were scheduled to play their first three matches in Kolkata and their fourth in Mumbai, fixtures that will now be assumed by Scotland.

Security concerns surfaced after the Board of Control for Cricket in India, on January 3, instructed Kolkata Knight Riders to release Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman from their IPL 2026 squad. Although no formal explanation was given, the move occurred against the backdrop of strained diplomatic relations between India and Bangladesh.

The ICC, however, dismissed the Mustafizur situation as a valid basis for Bangladesh’s position, stating that the BCB was “repeatedly linking its participation in the tournament to a single, isolated and unrelated development concerning one of its player’s involvement in a domestic league.”

“This linkage has no bearing on the tournament’s security framework or the conditions governing participation in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup,” the ICC added.

As the countdown to the World Cup continues, Scotland now steps into the global spotlight, while Bangladesh’s absence underscores the ICC’s firm stance on scheduling integrity and governance ahead of one of cricket’s flagship events.

Leeward Islands Women lift first-ever T20 Blaze Trophy amid rain drama

St Vincent — The Leeward Islands Women made history on Friday, capturing their first-ever T20 Blaze title thanks to a resilient performance led by Shawnisha Hector.

The top-order batter smashed a match-winning 58 off 44 balls, featuring seven fours and two towering sixes, guiding her team to a competitive 111 for six in their 20 overs at the Arnos Vale Playing Field.

The victory, decided via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method after relentless rain curtailed Barbados’ chase, preserved the Leewards’ unbeaten record throughout the tournament and marked a milestone for the team.

Barbados’ chase cut short

Chasing 112 to win, Barbados appeared well-positioned at 79 for five after 16 overs, needing just 33 runs from the final 24 balls at 8.25 runs per over. However, heavy and persistent showers brought play to an abrupt halt. The DLS calculation determined that Barbados needed 86 runs at that stage, handing the Leewards a tense six-run victory.

An understandably disappointed Barbados captain, Aaliyah Alleyne, expressed confidence in her team’s ability to chase the target had the weather allowed.

“I wouldn’t say that anything went wrong. If we had the opportunity to go back out there, I think I would have backed my team to get us across the line. Unfortunately, this is how it goes and I’m a bit disappointed…” Alleyne said, collecting the US$10,000 runners-up prize.

Leeward Islands celebrate a first-ever triumph

Leeward Islands captain Amanda Edwards, moments before accepting the US$20,000 winners’ cheque, credited team spirit and perseverance for the milestone success.

“We are very overwhelmed about this win. The spirit in our camp is very high and we kept motivating each other,” Edwards said.

Hector and Reniece Boyce initially looked set to post a formidable total, putting together a 46-run opening partnership that lifted the Leewards to 68 for one. Boyce fell for 26 from 32 balls, dismissed by Theanny Herbert-Mayers, triggering a mini-collapse. Hector’s dismissal followed, leaving the Leewards at 95 for four. Alleyne later claimed two more wickets, finishing with 2-14, while Shamilia Connell supported with 2-18.

Barbados start promising, stumble in mid-innings

Barbados opened with intent as Eboni Brathwaite and Trishan Holder put on 31 runs for the first wicket. However, Edwards’ tactical move to deploy her spinners immediately paid dividends. Qiana Joseph removed Holder, who managed just six from 21 deliveries, while leg-spinner Rozel Liburd claimed the wickets of Brathwaite and Naijanni Cumberbatch, leaving Barbados at 43 for three after nine overs.

Alleyne and Asabi Callender stabilized the innings with a 30-run partnership, taking the score to 73 for three. Yet, consecutive run-outs of Callender and Shakera Selman in the penultimate and final balls of the 15th over shifted the momentum firmly to the Leewards.

Only three more balls were bowled before the rain forced the teams off the field. Alleyne remained unbeaten on 16, but Barbados ultimately fell agonizingly short.

Liburd leads the bowling charge

Rozel Liburd’s disciplined leg-spin was instrumental in the Leewards’ triumph. She finished with 2-12 from four overs, keeping the pressure on the Barbados batters and securing key breakthroughs at crucial junctures.

With Hector’s leadership and the team’s composure under pressure, the Leeward Islands Women will celebrate a historic T20 Blaze title while Barbados

Cooper and Ramharack lead T&T Women to third-place T20 Blaze finish

West Indies

KINGSTOWN, St Vincent — Britney Cooper’s composed 46 off 44 balls, highlighted by six crisp fours, laid the foundation for Trinidad and Tobago Women’s 104 for seven in their final T20 Blaze match, setting the stage for a thrilling contest against defending champions Guyana.

Sent in to bat at the Arnos Vale Playing Field, T&T lost early wickets of Shunelle Sawh and Djenaba Joseph, both removed by Ashmini Munisar, leaving the team precariously placed at 31 for two.

Danellie Manns then removed Lee-Ann Kirby and Anisa Mohammed, reducing T&T to 60 for four and giving Guyana the upper hand. Yet, Cooper’s resilience at the crease, combined with Karishma Ramharack’s crucial support, steadied the innings.

Key partnership shifts momentum

The fifth-wicket partnership of 32 runs between Cooper and Ramharack proved pivotal, restoring T&T’s confidence and pushing the team toward a defendable total. Although Ramharack eventually fell for 13, the duo’s effort enabled Trinidad and Tobago to post a score that would prove just enough to claim victory.

Munisar finished with 4-15 for Guyana, while Manns ended with 2-14, highlighting the tight battle between bat and ball throughout T&T’s innings.

Ramharack strikes early as bowlers dominate

Chasing 105 for victory, Guyana struggled to gain momentum as wickets fell at regular intervals. Ramharack was instrumental in dismantling the top order, claiming openers Realeanna Grimmond and Sheneta Grimmond, while Shalini Samaroo removed captain Shemaine Campbelle for four and Mandy Mangru for five. By the 10th over, Guyana were in trouble at 54 for five.

Shabika Gajnabi and Latoya Williams briefly revived the chase with a 31-run partnership, taking the score to 85 for five, but the resurgence was short-lived. Anisa Mohammed broke the stand by trapping Williams lbw for 13, triggering a collapse that saw Guyana lose four wickets for just four runs and hand T&T a seven-run victory.

Bowling excellence secures the win

T&T’s bowling attack executed their plans with precision under pressure. Ramharack finished with 3-13, Kirby took 2-10, Samaroo claimed 2-16, and Mohammed contributed 2-17. The collective effort ensured that Guyana could never fully recover from the mid-innings collapse, securing third place in the T20 Blaze for Trinidad and Tobago Women.

Cooper and Ramharack’s performances underscored the blend of experience and tactical acumen that allowed T&T to finish the tournament on a high note, demonstrating depth and resilience in both batting and bowling.

Why job seekers should use AI interview tools for mock interviews

caribbean travel

Competitive interview rounds are now more than ever. Recruiters not only test your knowledge, but also test your speech, the degree to which you present yourself, and the clarity with which you describe your skills.

Even for highly qualified candidates, they fail to secure a job just because they did not perform well during their interview. This is why interview preparation is no longer an option. It is now a skill development process, and the most intelligent means of developing such a skill is with AI mock interview practice.

Job seekers no longer need to rely on random internet guidance or last-minute practice, as technology now allows for simulating the actual interview environment. Using AI mock interviewing, candidates are able to improve rapidly, have regular feedback, and go into interviews with confidence.

Why Most Candidates Struggle in Interviews

The greatest issue is that job seekers prepare passively. They read sample questions, watch videos and perhaps practice answers once or twice in their minds. This is preparation, and it does not develop performance.

It is different in actual interviews. Applicants can scratch out halfway through the response, talk too quickly, or lose flow. Most of the individuals have difficulty with reluctance, flimsy introductions, or protracted puzzling answers. And when they are rejected, no feedback is usually given, hence the same mistakes are repeated in the subsequent interview.

This is the very reason why AI-assisted Job interview practice is becoming imperative. It makes preparation a habit, and you get used to it that you train, study, and get better at it before it really counts.

What Are AI Interview Tools?

AI interview tools are applications that mimic the interview process and train candidates. These devices act as a virtual interviewer, asking pertinent questions, capturing your responses, and analyzing them in terms of your response.

An excellent AI interview platform with job seekers is not entirely content-oriented. It also tests clarity, confidence, pacing, and quality of responses. The best thing about it is that it provides feedback, which is not very common in actual interviews. This makes the improvement objective, not arbitrary.

How AI Mock Interview Practice Helps Job Seekers

The strength of AI mock interview practice is straightforward: a person can practice indefinitely without discomfort. Many individuals do not want to attend mock interviews since it is uncomfortable to practice with other people. Using AI tools, you can practice as much as you please without the fear of judgment.

This repetition, as it progresses, creates confidence by default. You begin to respond faster, organize your ideas, and use fewer filler words in your nervous manner. You also get used to recurrent patterns in interview questions. It is that comfort that will save an average candidate and make him a confident candidate.

Virtual Interview Simulation Makes Real Interviews Easier

Virtual interview simulation is one of the best characteristics of modern interview tools. This implies that the practice setting is similar to a real-life interview. You are challenged with timed questions, structured rounds, and a simulation of a real-life situation.

It is important since interviews are not merely about answers but performance in a tense situation. Virtual simulations train your brain to handle the interview environment. Once the simulation is repeated several times, the real interview does not seem frightening anymore.

And when familiarity is there, confidence automatically boosts.

How AI Tools Provide Better Feedback Than Traditional Practice

The traditional mock interviews are purely dependent on the individual who is conducting your interview. The majority of friends are not aware of how to evaluate your answers appropriately. Mentors are even known to concentrate more on content than delivery.

On the contrary, Mock interview tools are uniform. Each session provides a detailed analysis. It helps you determine trends in your performance. By way of example, you can notice that you always tend to use too long sentences, omit examples, or use an unsure voice.

This is what makes it possible to state that candidates can really improve interview skills with AI. It does not simply tell you to be confident. It reveals where you go astray and what to do to rectify.

Why Job Interview Practice with AI Builds Stronger Answers

Recruiters will target individuals who respond in a structured manner. They desire transparency and not confusion. However, there are many job seekers who are not familiar with how to present their experiences. They either give too much information or fail to explain their job.

With job interview practice with AI, you learn how to:

  • present introductions smoothly
  • structure answers professionally
  • explain achievements with impact
  • avoid vague statements

The additional advantage is that your responses are more focused and comprehensible. You have prepared, even when you are nervous, you will have an idea in your mind, thus when the question comes, you will not fail.

Why AI Interview Platforms Are a Smart Choice for Job Seekers

The recruitment process now is based on numerous rounds: screening interviews, HR rounds, role-based interviews, and manager discussions. The different stages require a particular communication style. The job seekers should have something that would assist them in keeping up with the new formats.

This is why it is effective to use an AI interview platform for job seekers. It offers practice that is role-specific and assists candidates in advancing more rapidly than other conventional approaches to training. It is also flexible. You are free to do it whenever you want without relying on another individual’s time.

This flexibility is the greatest advantage of many candidates. It is consistency that brings real improvement.

10 reasons to choose no-code test automation for your team

business

Software teams today are under constant pressure to deliver high-quality applications faster than ever before. As products evolve and customer expectations increase, traditional testing approaches often struggle to keep pace with rapid development cycles and growing application complexity.

No-code test automation has emerged as a practical and scalable solution to these challenges. It allows teams to automate testing without writing code, making automation more accessible, efficient, and sustainable. Below are ten key reasons why no-code test automation is worth considering for your team.

What Is No-Code Test Automation?

No-code test automation enables teams to design, execute, and maintain automated tests without writing traditional scripts or code. Instead of relying on programming languages, tests are created using visual workflows, plain-language steps, or configurable actions that closely reflect real user behavior. This approach makes test cases easier to read, understand, and update, even for team members without technical backgrounds. By abstracting the complexity of scripting, no-code automation helps teams focus on validating business logic and user experience rather than managing test code. As a result, automation becomes more accessible, more collaborative, and easier to scale across the organization.

Reason 1: Faster Test Creation

No-code automation significantly accelerates test creation by removing the need to write, debug, and maintain scripts. Teams can build automated tests quickly by defining actions and expected outcomes in a visual or structured format that mirrors how users interact with the application. This speed is especially valuable when requirements change frequently, as tests can be created or updated in less time, helping teams keep automation aligned with rapid development cycles and tight release schedules.

Reason 2: Lower Technical Barrier

Traditional test automation often depends on programming expertise, which limits participation to a small group of specialists. No-code automation lowers this barrier by allowing QA analysts, product owners, and business users to contribute to automated testing. By enabling more people to create and review tests, teams reduce dependency on developers, improve coverage, and ensure that tests better reflect real business scenarios and user expectations.

Reason 3: Reduced Maintenance Effort

Maintaining scripted tests can quickly become a major burden as applications evolve. No-code automation reduces maintenance effort by making tests easier to update when workflows or UI elements change. Because tests are structured around user actions rather than low-level code, teams can adapt automation more efficiently, reducing flaky failures and ensuring tests remain reliable across releases.

Reason 4: Faster Feedback Cycles

No-code automation makes it easier to run tests frequently throughout the development lifecycle. Teams can execute automated tests earlier and more often, providing faster feedback on code changes and new features. This early visibility helps teams detect issues sooner, reduces rework, and supports faster decision-making without waiting for lengthy manual testing cycles.

Reason 5: Better Collaboration Across Teams

No-code automation improves collaboration by making tests easier to understand and discuss. When tests are written in a clear and readable format, developers, testers, and product stakeholders can review them together. This shared understanding promotes alignment on requirements, reduces miscommunication, and encourages collective ownership of software quality across teams.

Reason 6: Scalable Automation Coverage

As applications grow, test coverage needs to expand across features, platforms, and environments. No-code test automation tools allow teams to scale coverage without increasing team size at the same pace. By simplifying test creation and maintenance, teams can automate more scenarios efficiently, ensuring quality keeps up with product growth.

Reason 7: Improved Test Stability

Flaky tests reduce trust in automation and slow teams down. No-code automation improves test stability by reducing reliance on fragile scripts and complex locators. Tests built around user behavior tend to be more resilient to minor UI changes, leading to more consistent results and greater confidence in automated feedback.

Reason 8: Cost Efficiency Over Time

Although no-code automation requires an initial investment, it delivers cost benefits over time. Faster test creation, reduced maintenance, and lower dependency on specialized skills help teams control long-term automation costs. Fewer defects reaching production also reduce support and remediation expenses, improving overall return on investment.

Reason 9: Faster Onboarding for New Team Members

New team members can become productive more quickly with no-code automation because they do not need to learn programming languages or complex frameworks. The intuitive nature of no-code tools shortens the learning curve, allowing new hires to contribute to testing and automation sooner, which is especially valuable for growing or distributed teams.

Reason 10: Alignment With Modern Development Practices

No-code automation aligns naturally with agile and DevOps practices that emphasize speed, flexibility, and continuous feedback. It supports frequent releases and continuous testing without adding unnecessary complexity. This alignment helps teams maintain quality while keeping pace with rapid development and evolving business needs.

When No-Code Test Automation Makes the Most Sense

No-code test automation is especially valuable for teams that release frequently and need to validate functionality quickly across builds. It works well in environments where applications change often, regression testing is time-consuming, or manual testing has become a bottleneck in the release process.

It is also a strong fit for teams with limited automation expertise or mixed skill sets. By enabling broader participation in test creation, no-code automation helps teams build coverage faster while still leaving room to introduce more advanced automation techniques as testing maturity grows.

Common Misconceptions About No-Code Automation

Despite its growing adoption, no-code automation is still surrounded by misconceptions that can slow adoption.

  • No-code automation lacks flexibility, when many platforms support complex workflows and dynamic scenarios
  • No-code automation replaces testers, when it actually allows testers to focus on higher-value activities
  • No-code solutions cannot scale, even though they are often designed to support large and growing test suites
  • No-code automation is only for beginners, when experienced teams also use it to reduce maintenance and speed delivery

Understanding these misconceptions helps teams evaluate no-code automation more objectively.

Conclusion

No-code test automation provides teams with a faster, more accessible way to improve software quality without increasing complexity. By lowering technical barriers, reducing maintenance effort, and supporting collaboration, it allows teams to scale automation in a way that aligns with modern development practices.

For organizations looking to deliver reliable software at speed, no-code automation is more than a convenience. It is a strategic approach that helps teams maintain quality, control costs, and adapt confidently as products and customer expectations continue to evolve.

Why São Tomé and Príncipe Citizenship by Investment is a smart choice

In an increasingly globalized world, having a second citizenship is no longer just a luxury — it’s a strategic move for investors, entrepreneurs, and families seeking mobility, security, and new opportunities. Among the world’s citizenship-by-investment programs, São Tomé and Príncipe stands out as an affordable, fast, and family-friendly option. Launched officially on August 1, 2025, the program offers a streamlined path to citizenship through a contribution to the National Transformation Fund, opening doors to global travel, financial flexibility, and a peaceful tropical lifestyle.

Fast and Efficient Citizenship

One of the most striking advantages of the São Tomé and Príncipe program is its speed. Unlike many other investment citizenship programs that can take months — or even years — São Tomé and Príncipe allows applicants to obtain citizenship in as little as 2 months. With no residency or interview requirements, investors and their families can complete the process remotely, making it an ideal choice for those who need a fast, hassle-free solution for obtaining a second passport.

The application process is further simplified through licensed agents and the Citizenship Investment Unit (CIU) in Dubai. Applicants benefit from full guidance, ensuring that every document is prepared accurately and submitted according to official requirements.

Affordable Investment Threshold

Affordability is another key factor that makes this program stand out. The minimum investment starts at just $90,000 for a single applicant and $95,000 for a family of 2–4 members, making it one of the most accessible citizenship programs worldwide. Additional dependents, including children over 18 or newborns, may require extra contributions, but the overall investment remains highly competitive. Funds contributed are allocated to the National Transformation Fund, which supports national priorities such as renewable energy, infrastructure, education, and housing. This ensures that the investment not only benefits the applicant but also contributes to the country’s sustainable development.

Family-Friendly Approach

The São Tomé and Príncipe program is designed with families in mind. Investors can include their spouse, unmarried children up to 30 years old, and parents over 55 in the application. This multi-generational inclusion ensures that entire families can benefit from the same citizenship without the need for separate applications or additional large investments. The requirement for children to be financially dependent provides flexibility for adult children who are still studying or establishing their careers.

Visa-Free Travel and Global Mobility

A major advantage of São Tomé and Príncipe citizenship is the ability to travel freely to over 60 countries and territories without a visa or with visa-on-arrival access. Key destinations include Brazil, Hong Kong, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and numerous countries across Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Additionally, citizens enjoy privileges in the Community of Portuguese Language Countries, which can be especially valuable for business, education, or relocation purposes. This level of mobility offers significant freedom for investors and their families, enabling them to travel for business, leisure, or educational opportunities with ease.

No Residency Requirements

Unlike some other citizenship programs that require applicants to live in the country for a certain period, Sao Tome and Principe citizenship imposes no residency requirement. Investors are not obligated to relocate or spend any time in the country before or after obtaining citizenship. This flexibility is ideal for individuals with global business interests or those who wish to maintain their current residence while gaining the security and benefits of a second passport.

Safe and Transparent Process

Safety, reliability, and transparency are key components of the São Tomé and Príncipe Citizenship by Investment program. The application process is managed through a public–private partnership, ensuring accountability and efficiency. Due diligence checks conducted by government authorities safeguard the integrity of the program, while experienced agents and lawyers provide full support throughout the process. Applicants can rely on a clear, structured, and secure pathway to citizenship, minimizing potential risks or delays.

Financial and Lifestyle Advantages

Beyond mobility and family benefits, São Tomé and Príncipe citizenship offers practical financial advantages. Investors gain a second passport that can support international business, facilitate banking, and diversify global assets. The low cost of the program, combined with the country’s stable political environment and peaceful lifestyle, makes it an attractive option for those seeking security and long-term planning opportunities.

From a lifestyle perspective, São Tomé and Príncipe offers a tropical, relaxed environment with relatively low living costs. The islands boast beautiful natural landscapes, beaches, and a slower pace of life, making it an ideal location for families or retirees who value quality of life alongside strategic global mobility.

Step-by-Step Guidance

Astons and other licensed agents provide comprehensive assistance at every stage of the process. From initial consultation and document preparation to submission, due diligence, and final citizenship approval, applicants are guided carefully and professionally. This ensures a smooth, compliant, and fast application, allowing investors to focus on planning their new opportunities without being burdened by administrative hurdles.

The typical steps include:

  1. Preliminary Assessment: Eligibility check and advice on the best approach.

  2. Application Preparation: Compilation of documents, including proof of identity, financial standing, and dependent status.

  3. Due Diligence: Government verification and security checks.

  4. Approval in Principle: Confirmation of eligibility before making the contribution.

  5. Investment Contribution: Donation to the National Transformation Fund.

  6. Citizenship Granted: Issuance of citizenship certificate and passport.

In a world increasingly unpredictable, Dubai has positioned itself as a calm port in the storm. No income tax, efficient governance, and political neutrality have made it a magnet for those looking to shield their wealth without sacrificing lifestyle.

Supply Without Saturation
Yes, supply is increasing. Nearly 29,000 villas by the end of next year. But population growth—at nearly 3% annually—is gulping up inventory faster than developers can build. It’s not just about supply pipelines, it’s about absorption capacity. And Dubai’s got it.

Dissecting the Segments: Not All Properties Play the Same Tune

Villas
Gated opulence. Winding lanes lined with palms. Think Emirates Hills, Dubai Hills, Palm Jumeirah. Prices here average AED 3,200 per square foot, and for good reason. You’re not just buying a villa—you’re buying status, space, and sanctuary.

Apartments
The mid-tier apartment scene is where rental returns are sizzling. Jumeirah Lake Towers, Business Bay, Dubai Marina—these neighborhoods pull in young professionals, digital expats, and investors who know a strong yield when they see one.

Studios and Flats
The unsung heroes of the market. One-bedroom and studio apartments are the reliable workhorses, especially for those dipping a toe into the investment pool. High occupancy, fast turnover, and strong margins.

Townhouses
Looking for a middle ground between city energy and suburban calm? Head to Arabian Ranches, Mudon, or Jumeirah Village Triangle. Think family-focused, community-centric, with green spaces and playgrounds—places designed for the long haul.

Off-Plan Gold
Off-plan properties now dominate nearly 40% of listings. Lower prices, payment flexibility, and access to bleeding-edge design. Sure, you wait—but the payoff? Often worth it.

Why Now Is Not Too Late

Legal Safety Nets
The market’s maturity shines through in regulation. Escrow accounts. Transparent pricing. Government oversight. RERA has built a system that protects both seasoned buyers and newcomers alike.

Liquidity That Moves
Unlike other emerging markets where you might get stuck holding the bag, Dubai’s resale scene is fluid. Want to exit quickly? The demand is there.

Diversification That Works
Dubai moves to its own rhythm. When Western markets wobble, Dubai often holds steady—or climbs. For global investors, it’s not just another piece of the portfolio. It’s a counterweight.

Penthouses With Purpose
Panoramic views. Infinity pools. Designer interiors. Downtown Dubai and Business Bay penthouses are not just homes—they’re financial power plays. Many clock in with rental yields over 7%.

Hotspots to Watch

Downtown Dubai
Where ambition lives. Iconic towers, dancing fountains, five-star everything. This is where investors go to show they’ve arrived.

Dubai Marina
Stylish, walkable, and eternally in demand. From sunset yacht views to buzzing nightlife, it sells itself.

Palm Jumeirah
A global icon. When you say “I own property on The Palm,” you don’t need to say much else.

Jumeirah Village Circle (JVC)
Affordable and surging. Townhouses and villas are flying off the market, driven by families looking for value without compromise.

Business Bay
Sky-high buildings. Downtown adjacency. And penthouses that are quietly becoming some of the best-performing assets in the market.

For Buyers: Get Tactical

  • Know your game plan: Are you in for quick gains, long-term rentals, or a hybrid strategy? Your answer should shape your shortlist.
  • Financing is your friend: With banks offering up to 75% mortgages and rates hovering around 4–5%, leverage works here—if you’re smart about it.
  • Service charges matter: They can make or break your yield. Don’t assume.
  • Off-plan isn’t one-size-fits-all: Early pricing is appealing, but make sure the developer’s track record checks out.
  • Use the right brokers: Especially when shopping for niche assets like branded residences or high-yield penthouses. A generalist won’t cut it.

Looking Forward: What Lies Beyond the Boom?

Dubai’s real estate engine isn’t slowing—but the ride may get bumpier. Watch for overbuilding in micro-markets. Global economic pressures could ripple through. But the fundamentals? Still rock solid. Demand is demographic-driven. Governance is sharp. Infrastructure is relentless.

Dubai isn’t a secret anymore. It’s a blueprint.

Whether you’re eyeing a sleek marina apartment, a sprawling villa, or a want to buy penthouse in Dubai with a sky-to-sea view, real estate in this city offers more than just returns.

Haitian Civil Society seeks CARICOM’s help amid efforts to remove prime minister

Haiti's new PM Alix Didier Fils-Aimé names 18-member Cabinet
Haiti’s Prime Minister, Alix Didier Fils-Aimé

The National Conference of Actors for New Governance (NCANG) in Haiti has formally requested that the Caribbean Community (Caricom) establish a Mediation and Transfer of Power Committee, amid moves by some members of the Presidential Transitional Council (CPT) to remove Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé within 30 days.

In a letter dated Jan. 23 to Caricom Secretary-General Dr. Carla Barnett, a copy of which was obtained by the Caribbean Media Corporation (CMC), NCANG and several Haitian civil society organizations urged immediate action, citing the “gravity of the national crisis and the rapid deterioration of the political and social situation” in the country.

“With the expiration of the mandate of the Presidential Transitional Council approaching on Feb. 7, 2026, it has become imperative to establish a Mediation Committee. This committee must serve as an impartial and inclusive framework to initiate negotiations among Haiti’s various stakeholders, with the goal of reaching consensus on the new governmental structure that will replace the CPT,” the letter said.

The call for mediation follows warnings from Caricom’s Eminent Persons Group (EPG), which includes former prime ministers of St. Lucia, Jamaica, and the Bahamas. The group stressed that consensus among stakeholders, civil society, and the Haitian people before Feb. 7 is “vital” to avoid “unwanted repercussions,” and reiterated its ongoing support in addressing the country’s political, security, and institutional challenges.

Haiti has been without an elected head of state since the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse in July 2021, and armed gangs have since gained control over large areas of Port-au-Prince, complicating the country’s path to elections.

Earlier this week, a resolution to dismiss Prime Minister Fils-Aimé received initial support from five CPT members but was ultimately blocked by advisor Smith Augustin, who refused to sign. Nevertheless, CPT members Leslie Voltaire and Edgard Leblanc Fils have indicated they intend to move forward with the plan to replace Fils-Aimé, despite U.S. warnings that such action could have consequences.

Voltaire emphasized the CPT’s authority, stating, “We are the ones who appointed Didier Fils-Aimé in November 2024. We are the ones who worked with him for a year, and it is up to us to issue a new decree naming a new prime minister, a new government and a new presidency.”

Fils-Aimé, speaking at a police event in Port-au-Prince on Friday, stressed that the rule of law will prevail: “Neither criminals wearing ties nor criminals wearing flip flops” will dictate authority, and warned that anyone opposing the state or the police would face a firm response. U.S. Charge d’Affaires Henry Wooster, present at the event, echoed the importance of keeping Fils-Aimé in office to sustain efforts against gang violence.

The situation underscores Haiti’s continued political instability, with the CPT’s mandate set to expire in less than two weeks and ongoing debates over leadership and governance in the midst of escalating security challenges.

BVI Premier clarifies US travelers not affected by UK ETA rules

British Virgin Islands

British Virgin Islands Premier Dr. Natalio Wheatley has moved to reassure residents and the tourism sector that new United Kingdom electronic travel authorisation (ETA) rules for U.S. citizens do not apply to the territory.

The issue arose during a segment on the Talking Points radio programme, where hosts cited international media reports suggesting that the UK’s ETA requirement could extend to overseas territories. Concerns were raised because the BVI receives the majority of its visitors from the United States via air and cruise travel.

Premier Wheatley dismissed the reports, calling them inaccurate and cautioning against accepting them at face value. “That Forbes article in terms of applying to overseas territories is not accurate,” he said. “So allow me to do some further research about that, but let’s not take that as gospel.”

The Premier emphasized that immigration and visa matters are devolved to the BVI and governed by local legislation. “I’m the minister of immigration, and of course, that’s our area devolved to the local government,” Wheatley said. “We control any kind of visa restriction or anything like that that’s implemented. That’s something that’s done by legislation here in the Virgin Islands.”

Dr. Wheatley also highlighted the importance of local autonomy in maintaining economic competitiveness. He warned that decisions imposed externally, without local input, could put the territory at a disadvantage. “If that’s not an area that was devolved to us and that we had a say in it, we would be subject to that,” he said, noting such a move could make the BVI “much less competitive” compared to other Caribbean destinations offering visa-free access to U.S. travelers.

For now, Premier Wheatley reaffirmed that U.S. citizens do not require a UK-style electronic travel authorisation to visit the British Virgin Islands, underscoring that immigration policy remains firmly under local control.

Peru’s Ambassador recognizes Bahamian-American trade leader for Miami roundtable

In a demonstration of economic diplomacy and cross-border collaboration, Peru’s Ambassador to the United States, Bernie Navarro, presented Bahamian-American trade executive Sonless Martin with a gift of appreciation for his leadership in convening a high-impact business roundtable in South Florida.

The luncheon brought together more than 20 CEOs and senior executives from sectors including trade, aviation, legal, and economic development to strengthen Peru–U.S. commercial ties. The forum focused on identifying actionable opportunities for investment and market access, aligning public- and private-sector stakeholders around near-term trade priorities, and fostering dialogue on supply chains and regional competitiveness.

“Miami is the gateway to the Americas, and Peru values meaningful partnerships that convert conversation into trade and investment,” Ambassador Navarro said. “Sonless Martin’s leadership and ability to convene the region’s top business stakeholders reflects the kind of collaboration that accelerates real outcomes.”

Martin, who oversees global trade, business development, and Foreign-Trade-Zone (FTZ) initiatives, emphasized that the roundtable aimed to connect strategic market intelligence with the institutional capacity needed to execute. “This was about bringing the right leaders to the table—those who can help build bridges between Peru’s producers, investors, and innovators and South Florida’s logistics ecosystem, aviation network, and global business community,” he said.

The roundtable featured leaders from prominent organizations, including The Beacon Council, Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, CAMACOL, American Airlines, Miami International Airport, PortMiami, Holland & Knight, and several private-sector companies. Former Miami Mayor Tomás Regalado also attended. Discussions centered on trade facilitation, investment pathways, and leveraging Miami’s intermodal network to expand commercial flows.

Participants explored next steps for sustaining momentum beyond the luncheon, including ongoing engagement with Peru’s public and private stakeholders, identifying sector-specific opportunities, and reducing friction in cross-border transactions. Martin’s expertise in Foreign-Trade-Zone oversight was highlighted as a key tool for streamlining logistics, improving cash flow, and supporting businesses involved in re-exporting, manufacturing, and regional distribution.

Ambassador Navarro’s recognition of Martin was described as both ceremonial and strategic, signaling a commitment to continued collaboration between diplomatic leadership and local trade conveners. Stakeholders indicated that the luncheon would serve as a foundation for deeper partnerships, follow-on sector meetings, and initiatives aimed at driving measurable growth in bilateral commerce.

Delroy Lindo to make directorial debut with Jamaica-set feature

Delroy Lindo

Acclaimed actor Delroy Lindo, known for his standout performances in films such as Sinner and The Harder They Fall, is making his directorial debut with a deeply personal feature set in Jamaica. The project marks a major milestone in Lindo’s nearly five-decade career and reflects his lifelong connection to Jamaican culture and heritage.

The film explores themes of power, spirituality, healing, and the strength of community. It follows a young man grappling with the loss of his mother, whose untimely death has left unresolved sorrow between him and his father. The narrative traces his emotional journey back to Jamaica, his mother’s homeland, where he confronts grief, generational trauma, and identity, set against the scenic backdrop of the Blue Mountains. Elements of magical realism and spiritual symbolism are woven throughout the story.

Lindo, born in the United Kingdom to Jamaican parents, has been attached to the project since 2015 and secured the rights in 2021. “This film not only marks my entry into a new role but also highlights my lifelong journey as an artist committed to exploring and sharing poignant narratives,” he said.

The actor-director continues to balance acting and filmmaking, with an upcoming role in Godzilla vs. Kong: Supernova, scheduled for release in 2027.

The announcement of his directorial debut coincides with another career highlight: Lindo received his first Oscar nomination at age 73 for best supporting actor for his portrayal of blues musician Delta Slim in Ryan Coogler’s horror film Sinners. “It feels terrific,” Lindo said on Good Morning America. “I’m still processing, if I’m really honest, but it’s wonderful. A lot of support, a lot of love. It feels really good.”

Lindo’s transition into directing demonstrates his dedication to telling stories that are both culturally resonant and emotionally compelling, offering audiences a window into Jamaican life, heritage, and the healing power of community.

Broward Schools reverses gym graduation plan after community backlash

Broward County Public Schools will no longer move most high school graduations to gymnasiums, following strong feedback from students, parents, and school board members.

Earlier plans had called for the Class of 2026 to hold ceremonies at district-owned gyms — including Dillard, Pompano Beach, and Blanche Ely High Schools — as a cost-saving measure. Superintendent Dr. Howard Hepburn said the move could save at least $500,000.

But students and families argued that high school gyms were a downgrade from larger venues such as Hard Rock Live, NSU’s Rick Case Arena, or the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.

After extensive discussion at the Jan. 21 School Board meeting, the district confirmed that funding has been secured to allow each school to hold its commencement ceremony in the same venue, or a comparable venue, as in 2025. Each graduate will be guaranteed a minimum of four guest tickets, and to ensure reliable, high-quality livestreaming for all families, graduations will be limited to five locations.

According to a memorandum to the School Board, staff had initially moved forward with the gym plan based on guidance from the October 21, 2025, School Board Workshop. However, after hearing feedback from the board and the community, the district will publish a revised graduation schedule next week.

“Staff will continue to collaborate with schools and engage the community as we plan for graduation venues in future years,” the memorandum states. “We look forward to celebrating the accomplishments of the Class of 2026 and ensuring this milestone remains a meaningful and memorable experience for our students and their families.”

The reversal marks a win for students and parents who advocated for the continuation of larger, more traditional venues for graduation ceremonies, ensuring that the Class of 2026 can celebrate this milestone in a setting comparable to prior years.
