The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Bahamas has reported unconfirmed information suggesting that two Bahamian nationals were killed in Haiti. The report, received via the Bahamian Embassy in Port-au-Prince, states that three Bahamian men and one Jamaican man were on a speedboat near Île de la Tortue when they came under gunfire from unknown assailants. Two of the Bahamian men were reportedly killed, one is hospitalized, and another remains unaccounted for.
The Haitian National Police’s counternarcotics unit, Brigade de Lutte contre le Trafic de Stupéfiants (BLTS), confirmed that on Sunday, July 13, 2025, officers intercepted a rowboat carrying a large quantity of drugs near Port-de-Paix.
According to BLTS, “under the leadership of Acting Superintendent Jeir Pierre, the Port-de-Paix police and prosecutor’s office intercepted a rowboat heavily laden with drugs. The result: two Jamaicans drowned, one body in the morgue, and a Bahamian in custody.” Authorities seized over 90 kilograms of cocaine during the operation and noted that “several other suspicious boats are believed to be still at large,” calling the seizure a first in the region’s history.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it is in contact with relevant Haitian authorities and will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available.
