Officers from the National Special Operations Unit and the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force Special Operations Unit, with assistance from the Canine Branch, conducted an intelligence-led training exercise in the Central Division on Sunday.

During the operation, police raided a house where three local men and eight Spanish-speaking women, including two minors, were arrested.

The Immigration Enforcement Section and the Counter-Trafficking Unit were notified. A pistol with a magazine containing one round of ammunition was also confiscated at the scene.

The male suspects face charges including human trafficking, possession of firearms, and possession of ammunition.

Trinidad and Tobago has seen a significant influx of Venezuelan migrants in recent years, many fleeing economic hardship and political instability in their home country. This has increased concerns over human trafficking and exploitation, with vulnerable migrants often targeted by criminal networks operating in the region. The TTPS continues to strengthen its efforts to combat such crimes and protect displaced persons within its borders.
