Transport and Mining Minister, Robert Montague, has lost two relatives, including his sister to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic as Jamaica Tuesday reported 752 new COVID-19 cases and 15 deaths bringing the infection total to 63,464, and virus death toll to 1,417.
The ruling Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) in a statement, said that Montague’s sister, Carlene Angela Rodney died on Sunday, while his cousin Dorrette Palmer Lobban, died 24 hours later.
The JLP said that both women had been ailing for a short period of time after contracting the virus.
It expressed condolences to Montague, who is the party’s chairman, and other Jamaicans who have lost loved ones to the virus.
“The Jamaica Labour Party assures its Chairman and all Jamaicans who’ve lost friends and relatives to COVID-19 of its support during the difficult time which they are encountering,” said the party, adding “ the JLP implores Jamaicans to remain confident that though the country is going through difficult times, we will emerge stronger”.
New Positive Cases
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health and Wellness reported that the new positive cases include 450 females and 302 males with ages ranging from 12 days to 98 years.
Those who have succumbed to the virus range in ages from 49 to 89 years old.
Jamaica has 13,820 active cases after 56 people recovered from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 47,843. The island also has 589 people in hospitals, 90 of which are severely ill, while 59 are critically ill and 179 are moderately ill.
