Speaking at a massive rally held at Belle’s Square in Bartica, Region Seven, President Ali revealed that approximately 2,800 officers of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) are being promoted across multiple ranks.
The promotions include advancements from Constable to Lance Corporal, Lance Corporal to Corporal, Corporal to Sergeant, and Sergeant to Inspector. These elevations took effect on August 1, exactly one month before the September 1 regional and general elections.
In his address, President Ali also celebrated the reinstatement of the annual police bonus, a benefit revoked by the previous administration.
“This is a government that will increase your salary scales… gave you your promotion, and this is a government you must support,” he declared to the crowd.
Highlighting further reforms, the president noted that his administration has introduced expansive educational opportunities for police officers. Unlike previous policies that imposed rank-based restrictions, officers at all levels can now pursue diplomas, degrees, or master’s programmes at no cost.
Earlier this year, 656 officers—including inspectors, superintendents, and corporals—were promoted as part of ongoing capacity-building initiatives within the GPF.
