A bill that would rename a stretch of Southern Boulevard in Palm Beach County as “President Donald J. Trump Boulevard” is now on Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ desk after clearing the Florida Legislature during this year’s session.
The proposed designation would apply to a four-mile section of Southern Boulevard, stretching from Kirk Road — just south of Palm Beach International Airport — to South Ocean Boulevard, the location of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club.
The bill (HB 987), passed in the spring legislative session, includes a host of other honorary road renamings across the state, many commemorating local political figures, musical legends, and fallen law enforcement officers.
In Miami-Dade County, the bill proposes renaming:
-
A section of U.S. 41/Southwest 8th Street from Southwest 27th Avenue to Brickell Avenue as “Congressman Lincoln Diaz-Balart Memorial Highway” in honor of the former Republican congressman who died in March.
-
A portion of Southwest 57th Avenue between U.S. 41 and West Flagler Street as “Manolo Reyes Boulevard”, after the longtime Miami city commissioner who died in April.
-
State Road 932/Northwest 103rd Street/49th Street within Hialeah as “Celia Cruz Way”, paying tribute to the iconic Cuban-American singer known as the “Queen of Salsa.”
In Palm Beach County, the bill would also designate the intersection of Southern Boulevard and Royal Palm Beach Boulevard — the area where three Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputies died in a crash last November — as “PBSO Motorman Highway” to honor Cpl. Luis Paez, Deputy Ignacio “Dan” Diaz, and Deputy Ralph “Butch” Waller.
Additional designations across Florida include:
-
SPC Daniel J. Agami Bridge in Broward County.
-
Master Patrol Officer Jesse Madsen Memorial Highway in Hillsborough County.
-
Harry Frisch Street in Duval County.
-
Sonia Castro Way in Miami-Dade County.
-
A revision to the length of the Deputy William Gentry, Jr., Memorial Highway in Highlands County.
If signed by the governor — or allowed to become law without his signature — the designations will take effect July 1, 2025. The Florida Department of Transportation is directed to install appropriate signage for each of the new honorary names.
