The City of Miramar is set to launch its annual Caribbean American Heritage Month with a lively Kick-Off Celebration on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, from 6 PM to 8 PM.
The event, hosted by Commissioner Carson “Eddy” Edwards, promises an evening of cultural immersion and festivities for the entire community.
The celebration will take place at Miramar City Hall, located at 2300 Civic Center Place, City Hall Plaza, Miramar, FL 33025. Attendees are invited to “come hear all about the exciting events planned for the month of June!” as Miramar honors the rich heritage and contributions of Caribbean Americans.
Caribbean American Heritage Month, observed nationally in June, is a time dedicated to celebrating the rich history, vibrant cultures, and significant contributions of Caribbean people and their descendants to the United States. For a city like Miramar, located in South Florida, this celebration holds immense importance given its substantial Caribbean American population. Miramar is home to a large population of Jamaican Americans in the United States, and a significant portion of its overall foreign-born residents originates from various Caribbean nations.
This demographic reality is further reflected in the city’s leadership, with its entire commission, including Mayor Wayne Messam, Vice Mayor Yvette Colbourne, and Commissioners Carson “Eddy” Edwards, Maxwell Chambers, and Avril Cherasard, all of Caribbean heritage.

Highlights of the Kick-Off Celebration include:
- Steel Drum Music
- Moko Jumbies
- Live Performances
- Opportunities to sample Caribbean food
The evening will be emceed by Chernéy Amhara, a Jamaican-American Emmy Award-winning Journalist/NBC6, with musical entertainment provided by DJ Fergie.
This year’s celebration also holds special significance as it commemorates the 30th Anniversary of the Montserrat volcano eruption, a poignant reminder of the resilience and enduring spirit of the Caribbean people.
Celebrating Caribbean American Heritage Month in Miramar is not just a cultural event; it’s an acknowledgment of the integral role Caribbean Americans play in the city’s identity, economy, and social fabric, fostering a sense of belonging and pride among a significant portion of its residents while educating the wider community about this dynamic heritage.
The City of Miramar invites everyone to join in this vibrant cultural experience. To ensure your spot, please RSVP at CAHMKICKOFF2025.EVENTBRITE.COM.
