Miami-Dade County landmarks will light up in red, white, and green, representing the flags of Turkey and Syria, in solidarity with victims of the recent earthquakes that affected both countries, from Friday, February 24 through Sunday, February 26.
“Miami-Dade County will shine in the colors of the Turkish and Syrian flags to show solidarity with all the earthquake victims who have faced unimaginable calamity and loss of life,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “Miami-Dade County is a home to people from all over the world, especially for people who have fled their home countries for many reasons, including devastating natural disasters. So many nations and cultures woven together make us more resilient. Today, we send our neighbors in Turkey and Syria a message of love and solidarity.”
Miami-Dade County is mobilizing to support those affected by this tragedy and offered to deploy our world-renowned FL-TF1 Urban Search and Rescue team. Our residents have already come together in a show of support, raising funds through trusted nonprofits, and collecting supplies through local temples, churches, and mosques., Through the leadership of Chairman Oliver G. Gilbert III, the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners has passed legislation that allows county employees to donate the monetary value of their accrued annual and holiday leave to support relief efforts.”
