Miami-Dade Police have arrested a woman on allegations of running an illegal pre- and post-surgery recovery center from a residence in South Miami.
Daaiyah Alneesha Roundtree, 43, was arrested following a tip received by authorities regarding the unlicensed operation of an assisted living facility on Southwest 63rd Court.
Tip leads to unlicensed facility discovery
Acting on a tip-off, law enforcement officials were alerted to the presence of an unlicensed assisted living facility purportedly offering post-surgery recovery services.
Further investigation revealed Roundtree’s involvement in the operation, which lacked the necessary licensing, according to police reports.
Discovery of patients and employee
Upon executing a search warrant at the residence, authorities discovered a total of eight individuals—seven post-operative and one pre-operative patient—along with an employee.
The patients were found to be receiving various personal care services, including bathing, dressing, and medication administration.
Allegations of payment for services
According to the arrest report, patients disclosed that they were charged between $250 and $350 per night for the services rendered.
Payments were made through both cash transactions and the mobile payment platform Cash App, indicating a lucrative yet illegal operation.
Legal proceedings and authorities’ response
Following her arrest, Roundtree was booked into jail before being released on bond. Information regarding legal representation for Roundtree was not immediately available.
Additionally, representatives from the Agency for Health Care Administration and the Florida Department of Health were present during the operation’s shutdown, issuing a notice of unlicensed activity.
In a further response to the discovery, investigators from the Illegal Dumping Unit were called upon to safely dispose of all bio-hazardous waste associated with the unlicensed operation, ensuring public health and safety.
