The Miami-Dade County School Board has once again demonstrated its financial excellence, earning the prestigious Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for its Annual Comprehensive Financial Report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2024.
This marks the 40th consecutive year the district has received this top-tier recognition — the highest form of acknowledgment in governmental accounting and financial reporting.
The award is based on a rigorous evaluation by an impartial panel, which determined the report met the program’s high standards, particularly its “spirit of full disclosure,” aimed at clearly and thoroughly communicating the district’s financial story to the public.
To qualify for the honor, the district’s budget document was required to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines in four key areas: policy development, financial planning, operational guidance, and effective communication. The report also had to score proficient across fourteen mandatory criteria tied to those categories.
In tandem with this recognition, the district’s Office of the Controller received the Award of Financial Reporting Achievement, presented by the GFOA to departments that play a central role in preparing award-winning financial documents.
The GFOA, a nonprofit professional association, represents over 21,000 finance professionals across the United States and Canada. Its mission is to advance excellence in public finance through education, leadership, and best practices — something Miami-Dade County Public Schools continues to exemplify.
