As of Sunday, local gas stations in South Florida are reportedly closing or running low on gas reserves, due to last week’s heavy rainfall. There are currently long lines at gas stations, with many motorists driving from station-to-station to find available gas.
Reports are that last week’s heavy rains in Broward County flooded Port Everglades roads, which disrupted the transportation of fuel from the port to gas stations.
However, according to a statement released by Port Everglades officials, the issue will be rectified soon.
“The public is encouraged to remain patient and not rush to the pumps since the port has ample fuel supply. As more of the privately owned petroleum companies become operational, deliveries will continue to increase,” the statement said, noting that petroleum trucks have already begun to dispatch gasoline to local stations.
In the meantime, numerous local gas stations have already begun to run out of gas and have placed red and yellow plastic coverings over pump handles, indicating empty tanks.
