Detectives arrest 16-year-old in Wilton Manors fatal shooting

Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit have made an arrest in the shooting that killed a teenager Monday night in Wilton Manors.

According to reports shortly after 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 16, officers with the Wilton Manors Police Department, Fort Lauderdale Police Department and Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue responded to a shooting call in a multi-family residential unit in the 400 block of Northwest 25th Street. Upon arrival, officers located one shooting victim. The victim, identified as Christopher Granados, was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. The shooting was contained to the residence and there was no threat to the community.

Broward Sheriff’s Office homicide and crime scene detectives, who investigate deaths within the city of Wilton Manors, were called to take over the ongoing death investigation. Detectives spoke to teenage witnesses who were in the residence at the time of the shooting. The investigation revealed that the victim and a 16-year-old were playing with firearms when one of the guns discharged and struck Granados.

The police says the 16-year-old male was arrested Monday night and faces one count of manslaughter with a firearm
