The City of Miramar is set to host the Haitian Heritage Celebration & Art Exhibition on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at the Shirley Branca Park located at 6900 Miramar Parkway at 6 pm.
This free event is being hosted by Vice Mayor, Alexandra P. Davis and will showcase Haitian heritage and culture. There will be music and entertainment plus live performances by Fatima, Jaydo, and the headline act, Kenny Haiti.
“We are proud to showcase the very rich culture of our Haitian American residents and guests. We have lined up an exciting day with popular Haitian artistes, a DJ, music, and much more. In Miramar, a third of its population are of Caribbean descent, of which 6 per cent are from Haiti. We take pride in and celebrate our multicultural diversity. We are inviting everyone to come out and enjoy this festival,” stated Vice Mayor Alexandra Davis.
One of the elements of this Festival is a Student Art Contest which runs until Sunday, May 7, 2023, for Elementary, Middle, and High School students who reside in Miramar.
The topic of the competition is: “What Haiti means to me” and the students can use any form of art to express this topic. Students can upload their work to Miramarfl.gov/HaitianArtContest.
There will be a $300 cash prize for the winning school in each category and a $100 cash prize for the winning student in each category. The students will be acknowledged at the Haitian Heritage Celebration on May 13th.
The event is expected to draw a huge crowd of Haitian Americans from Miramar and the tri-county areas of Miami Dade, West Palm Beach, and Broward.
Registered guests will be treated to an authentic Haitian meal, while supplies last and food trucks will be available. Additionally, there will be an art display featuring well-known Haitian artists like Jude Papaloko, Thegenus, and others.
Guests of the Festival are asked to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets to watch the show.
