Broward County libraries are hosting a series of events this week to commemorate Juneteenth, the day marking the end of slavery in the United States.
Storytelling with Windell Campbell kicks off June 16 with engaging sessions for families at multiple locations:

Freedom Quilts: A Juneteenth Story in Fabric, 6–7 p.m., Lauderhill Towne Centre Library — Dr. Kim D. Harris leads participants in designing mini mixed-media “freedom quilt” panels.

African American History Databases – Juneteenth, 6:30–7:30 p.m., online — A virtual guide to exploring free resources on Black history and culture.
Families can gather on June 18 at the African American Research Library and Cultural Center for a festive Juneteenth Celebration (1–3:30 p.m.), with music and cultural activities for all ages. Other kid-friendly events on the same day include:

Paint, Sip, and Sing for Families, 4–5 p.m., Northwest Regional Library — featuring painting, music, and juice for a joyful afternoon.
The week concludes with Destination Freedom on June 20, 6:30–9 p.m. at the African American Research Library and Cultural Center. This 21+ event offers a powerful evening of storytelling, poetry, live music, and Southern food that traces the African-American journey to freedom and sparks conversations about justice and the future.
