As rainfall continues to soak South Florida and more showers are expected later this week, Broward County officials are ramping up efforts to manage potential flooding and keep roads safe.
The Public Works Department’s Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division (HBMD) has deployed all County-owned vacuum trucks and strategically staged pumps in flood-prone areas to help prevent water from pooling on streets. Crews are also out across the County today inspecting roadways and storm drainage systems, clearing debris, and responding to any signs of localized flooding.
In addition to staff on the ground, contractors are on standby to assist if conditions worsen. All pump equipment has been tested and is ready to be activated as needed.
The HBMD is tasked with maintaining and improving the County’s road and bridge infrastructure. Beyond flood prevention, its responsibilities include everything from street resurfacing and bridge maintenance to canal construction and mosquito control.
Residents are encouraged to report any flooded streets or blocked drains to help ensure swift response as Broward continues to monitor the evolving weather conditions.
