Family and friends of the late Mario Nelson gathered last month to rename a street in Brooklyn after the former U.S. Army Sergeant.
The Haitian-American army sergeant was killed in combat in Iraq in 2006.He was 26 years old and left behind his wife, Mecca, and their three-year-old daughter, Mia.
His widowed wife and daughter described him as a proud patriot who volunteered at Ground Zero after 9/11 and was inspired to enlist in the Army. His former military comrades also gathered to support and celebrate his life.
The late army sergeant intended to become a fireman following his tour in Iraq.
