On February 14th, the global premiere of “Bob Marley: One Love” biopic set the stage for a heartfelt gathering in Hollywood, Florida, where the Caribbean community of South Florida came together to honor the legacy of the reggae legend.
Ouida Crawford, the founder of Reggae Live, orchestrated an intimate VIP viewing of this highly anticipated movie, alongside Caroline (CJ) Johnson.

Renting out two VIP theaters at Regals Cinemas in Diana Point, Crawford curated an invitation-only event that brought together esteemed guests, including artist/actor David Kerr (known as Davo), who portrayed his father, Junior Marvin of The Wailers, in the film, and reggae superstar Wayne Wonder.

Recognition of local actors
Crawford, a stalwart in Caribbean entertainment, emphasized the importance of acknowledging local talent within the movie. “I decided to do this VIP experience because I have quite a few friends in the movie and just the fact that Bob for us [Caribbean people] is an icon. And it was also in support of the local musicians and actors in the movie. It was important for me to help push that along and show support for their journey and the biopic,” she explained.

With a rich background as the former founder of Irie Jam Radio, Crawford continues to leave her mark on the industry through her role at Reggae Live, where she conceptualizes and organizes live reggae shows across the diaspora and works closely with Caribbean artists.
Other Jamaicans featured in the movie include musicians Naomi Cowan, J-Summa, Aston Barrett Jr., Hector Roots Lewis, Sheldon Shepherd, and singer Sevana.
The premiere of “Bob Marley: One Love” not only celebrates the life and music of a cultural icon but also highlights the unity and pride within the Caribbean community. Through events like these, Ouida Crawford and her collaborators pave the way for greater recognition of Caribbean culture and talent in the entertainment world.
