Talented Jamaicans in the fields of reggae, jazz, and comedy are being called to audition for entry into the Tourism Entertainment Academy (TEA), a government-backed initiative designed to strengthen the entertainment component of the island’s tourism industry.
The academy, spearheaded by the Ministry of Tourism through the Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF), is being implemented in collaboration with the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts. It aims to equip local entertainers with the skills and training needed not just for live performance, but to build sustainable careers within the tourism sector.
Auditions will take place from June 17 to 19 at Grand-A-View Restaurant and Event Place in Montego Bay, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Each day is dedicated to a specific genre: reggae on June 17, jazz on June 18, and comedy on June 19.
Aspiring participants must register online at calendly.com/tourismenhancement/tea. If no slots are available on the desired day, individuals are encouraged to email [email protected] to express their interest.
Following the audition process, selected performers will enter a structured 20-week training programme. This includes 10 weeks of development in cultural authenticity, performance technique, and professional conduct; five weeks of rehearsals; and five weeks of live performances.
Musicians in the programme will learn up to 150 songs to expand their repertoire, while comedians will receive coaching in scriptwriting and delivery. The initiative will culminate in a grand showcase and graduation ceremony, where participants will be awarded certificates.
