Guyana President Irfaan Ali promises historic victory for PPP in September elections

President Dr. Irfaan Ali has declared that Guyana is ready to deliver the biggest victory ever for the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) in the upcoming elections.

“Come September 1, we will sweep the polls like never before in the history of Guyana,” President Ali said during the PPP’s campaign launch at Kitty Market Square.

“We will not just win, we will make history,” he added, urging supporters to mark their ballots next to the cup, the symbol of the PPP. “By doing that, you will be voting for every Guyanese,” he said.

The president highlighted the unity within the PPP, reflected in the diverse crowd at the campaign launch. “The march to victory on September 1 starts now,” he said, noting that the PPP/C has grown stronger over the years and is unstoppable.

“We are the party of the common man and everyday woman…we are the people’s party…we do not change with the season; and when you back the PPP, you are not just backing a party, you are backing a cause,” he said. “Every time we have taken the reign of government, Guyana has risen…under the PPP/C, Guyana is rising stronger every day.”

President Ali reminded that previous governments led by the PNC/APNU left the country in a broken state, and the PPP had to clean up their mess. He criticized the PPP’s competitors, saying one group “only knows to steal elections” while the other “only knows to steal taxes.”

In contrast, he described the PPP as the engine of development, prosperity, and unity. “We are a party of…performance. Every single promise we made to you, we’ve kept,” he said, calling the achievements in the past five years “nothing short of a miracle.”

He pointed to responsible leadership and management of the country’s revenue, highlighting more than 50,000 house lots distributed, world-class hotels, infrastructure like bridges across the coast and regions, and more schools for children.

Investment in healthcare was also emphasized. “Whilst healthcare is still a work in progress, we will not stop until you have world-class health services,” President Ali said. “We don’t just want a better Guyana. We want a stronger and healthier Guyana.”

Looking ahead, the president spoke of building a Guyana that leads globally in energy security, food security, and environmental services. “We are planning beyond the boundary,” he said.

The PPP government plans to invest in human capital, including support for local artists, entertainers, and athletes. President Ali revealed plans to build an indoor arena for international events and a modern art gallery at Durban Park.

Other future priorities include investments in the security sector, reducing bureaucracy in banking, improving online banking services, financing for businesses, and creating more investment opportunities.

A key focus, he said, is to widen the income base for every family to grow their wealth and to improve government service delivery by eliminating unnecessary delays, so citizens do not waste productive time.

President Ali urged voters to consider the future they want, promising that under the PPP, every Guyanese will own their own home and pay less in taxes. “The PPP’s policies are crafted to give citizens more disposable income in their pockets,” he said.

“And you can expect that we are going to do more for you,” the president assured.

He concluded by stating the choice clearly: between those who destroy and those who build; those who take away and those who give.
