The funeral, held in Vergenoegen and followed by her burial at the Vergenoegen Cemetery, was marked by emotional scenes. Adrianna’s mother, still struggling to come to terms with her daughter’s untimely death, was seen wailing and crying uncontrollably as family members, friends, and strangers alike shared in the sorrow.

Adrianna was found dead on April 24, 2025, in the swimming pool of the Double Day Hotel in Tuschen, a day after she was reported missing during a family outing. The 11-year-old had been at the hotel with her grandmother and siblings, and was last seen the previous afternoon. Her sudden disappearance triggered an immediate search by police and hotel staff, but her body was not discovered until the following morning.

The delayed discovery and the condition in which her body was found prompted public suspicion and anger. Protests erupted across the country, with citizens demanding answers and accountability. In one instance, portions of the Double Day Hotel were set ablaze by demonstrators who questioned the official handling of the case.

Three autopsies—including one conducted by a U.S.-based pathologist hired by the family—all confirmed drowning as the cause of death. However, the American examiner urged a more thorough investigation, stating she was “reluctant” to confirm drowning as the final cause without further clarity, especially given visible injuries such as a bruised knee and the delayed recovery of the body despite previous police searches.

Public distrust in the official account has only grown. Many Guyanese remain convinced that something more sinister occurred and believe the child may have been harmed before being placed in the pool. The emotional resonance of Adrianna’s story has turned her into a symbol of the nation’s call for justice and institutional reform.

As Adrianna Younge is laid to rest, her grieving family continues to demand transparency and answers. The calls for justice echo across communities, with citizens urging the authorities to thoroughly investigate all circumstances surrounding her death.
