Police in St Vincent and the Grenadines are investigating a shooting that left a 27-year-old Grenadian man injured on Tuesday night—and revealed he is wanted in his home country.

The Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) said the victim, identified as Shakim Akin Thomas, also known as “Shark,” of St Andrew, Grenada, was shot three times by an unknown assailant. The gunshots struck him in the hand, upper thigh, and lower thigh.

Despite his injuries, Thomas managed to flee the scene and sought help at the nearby St James Medical School, where he encountered police officers and received immediate assistance.

The RSVGPF confirmed it is treating the incident as a “serious act of violence” and is actively investigating. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward.

During the course of the investigation, police discovered that Thomas is the subject of a regional wanted notice issued by Grenadian authorities in May 2023. He is reportedly wanted for undisclosed offenses in Grenada.

“While this detail does not diminish the urgency or seriousness with which the RSVGPF is treating this case, it serves as a reminder to the public that harbouring individuals who are in the country illegally or wanted in other jurisdictions is both reckless and unlawful,” the police said in a statement.

The force is encouraging members of the public to assist with ongoing investigations. “Your information could help bring those responsible to justice. Speak up, because your silence helps no one,” the statement added.
