Former St. Lucia Prime Minister Allen Chastanet appointed to board of International Democracy Union

The Caribbean Democrat Union (CDU) has issued a formal statement congratulating former St. Lucia Prime Minister, the Hon. The IDU is a global alliance of center-right political parties that share a commitment to democratic principles, individual liberty, free markets, and human rights.

The appointment marks a historic moment for the Caribbean, as Chastanet becomes one of the few regional leaders to hold such a high-level position within the global alliance of center-right political parties. The CDU highlighted that his selection is a testament to his unwavering dedication to democratic values, principles of good governance, and the rule of law—principles that he has championed both in Saint Lucia and internationally.

The statement noted that throughout his distinguished career, Allen Chastanet has been recognized for his consistent advocacy of transparency, accountability, and people-centered development. As a statesman and visionary leader, he has effectively combined passion with pragmatism in defending democratic institutions and the rights of citizens.

Within the IDU, said the CDU, Chastanet has long been regarded as a respected advocate for elevating Caribbean perspectives in vital global discussions on climate change, trade and investment, tourism, and sustainable development. His leadership has played a key role in ensuring that small island developing states are not only visible but also heard in international policy dialogues, shared the statement.

The CDU expressed pride in celebrating this achievement alongside Chastanet and the United Workers Party (UWP) family. The organization conveyed confidence that his role on the IDU Board will help amplify Caribbean concerns and aspirations, thereby enhancing the region’s contribution to the global democratic movement.
