GEORGETOWN, GUYANA – The owner of the Double Day Hotel, Bhojnarine Bhola, has been released from police custody following the expiration of the statutory detention period. Bhola had been held in connection with the investigation into the death of 11-year-old Adrianna Younge.
Although released, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) confirmed that Bhola has been blacklisted from leaving the country, and that DNA samples were taken from him and the child. The samples are being sent to the Mount Sinai Health System in New York for advanced testing and analysis, escorted by a forensic investigator.
The case, which the GPF described as “serious in nature,” has led to a widening investigation and disciplinary actions against several individuals. Assistant Commissioner Khalid Mandall is among those placed on administrative leave, alongside other law enforcement and civilian staff.
A key development in the probe involved a civilian employee, who admitted to mistakenly inputting the wrong date while reviewing security footage near the Double Day Hotel. This led to an inaccurate report that a woman matching Younge’s description had left the area with a man.
Further investigation revealed that a sergeant from the Special Constabulary Unit falsely claimed to have received a tip-off about Younge entering a black Raum vehicle. Authorities traced the call and determined that the so-called anonymous caller was well acquainted with the sergeant. The individual told detectives he had overheard a conversation outside the hotel and shared that information with the officer in a ten-minute phone call—confirmed by call records.
As the investigation unfolds, a corporal and a constable have also been removed from duty due to apparent negligence. The Guyana Police Force has confirmed that the investigation remains active and ongoing.
