The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) has appointed Trinidadian national Narendra Ramgulam as its first-ever Deputy Director of Sustainable Tourism, a newly created role that underscores the organization’s growing emphasis on sustainable and regenerative tourism development.
Ramgulam, who joined the CTO last year as a Sustainable Tourism Consultant, has already played a key role in shaping the region’s transition toward more inclusive and resilient tourism models. His appointment was formally approved by the CTO Board of Directors and is viewed as a pivotal step in advancing the organization’s Reimagine Plan.
“We are pleased to welcome Narendra to this new leadership role,” said CTO Secretary-General Dona Regis-Prosper. “His contributions over the past year have been instrumental, and we are confident that his expertise, innovation and deep passion for sustainability will continue to elevate our work across the region.”
In his new role, Ramgulam will oversee the strategic development and rollout of initiatives designed to enhance sustainable and regenerative tourism practices across CTO member countries. His responsibilities will span policy development, capacity building, success story documentation, and the evaluation of sustainability programs.
A seasoned tourism professional and prolific researcher with 13 publications to his name, Ramgulam previously served as Director of Tourism Product Development & Destination Management at the Tobago Tourism Agency Limited. His leadership there helped earn international sustainability awards and bolstered the island’s reputation for safety during the COVID-19 pandemic. He also brings academic experience from his tenure as a Postgraduate Coordinator and Lecturer at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus.
Ramgulam is set to assume his new position in mid-August and will be based at CTO headquarters in Barbados.
