His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, a United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Goodwill Ambassador, is set to begin his official mission to Jamaica today, Monday, November 18.
Hosted by the UNDP Multi-Country Office, the visit will spotlight initiatives aimed at climate resilience, sustainable livelihoods, and access to justice.
The Crown Prince’s tour will commence in the Rocky Point fishing community in Clarendon, where he will meet with fishers and fisheries authorities to address the challenges of illegal, unregulated, and unreported fishing. This visit will highlight the impact of the Norway-funded Blue Resilience program, which aims to combat fisheries crime and promote sustainable marine practices.
Later in the day, the Crown Prince will travel to Victoria in Thompson Town, another Clarendon community, to observe how water harvesting systems are improving access to potable water for households, schools, and farms.
The day will conclude with a welcome reception in Kingston, where Crown Prince Haakon will deliver remarks alongside State Minister in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Alando Terrelonge, and UNDP Resident Representative Dr. Kishan Khoday.
The Crown Prince’s mission will extend into Tuesday and Wednesday, including meetings with Prime Minister Dr. The Most Hon. Andrew Holness, a tour of the legal aid mobile bus service, and a visit to the Oracabessa Bay Fishing Sanctuary. His activities will culminate in a keynote address at a Youth Symposium on Poverty and Climate Change.
