The 20-year-old Jamaican student of the University of the West Indies (UWI) accused of holding his ex-girlfriend captive and torturing her for three days has been slapped with additional charges.
Matthew Hyde of Braemar Avenue, Kingston Hyde, who was previously charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm, is now facing false imprisonment, malicious communication, and assault occasioning bodily harm charges.
When he appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Thursday, he was remanded until March 9.
According to reports, Hyde allegedly held his 19-year-old ex-girlfriend against her will in his room on a block on the UWI Mona campus, where he brutally beat her and burned her all over her body with a clothes iron.
The incident occurred between Monday, February 6, and Thursday, February 9.
The woman was later rescued, a police report was made, and Hyde was taken into custody and later charged.
According to police investigations, Hyde accused the woman of infidelity the day before he locked her in his room.
