A 20-year-old Jamaican student of the University of the West Indies (UWI) is to appear in court on Monday after he was charged for allegedly holding his ex-girlfriend captive and torturing her for three days.
Matthew Hyde of Braemar Avenue, Kingston, is charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm.
The police say other charges against him are being considered as the probe continues.
According to reports, Hyde allegedly held his 19-year-old ex-girlfriend against her will in his room on a block on the UWI Mona campus, where he brutally beat her and burned her all over her body with a clothes iron.
The incident occurred between Monday, February 6, and Thursday, February 9.
The woman was later rescued, a police report was made, and Hyde was taken into custody and later charged.
The police are seeking to interview a female student of the university whom they believe could provide information about the incident.
