Reports are that 26-year-old Romario Brown, of Steer Town, and 19-year-old Hadiya Valentine of St. Dacre – both in St. Ann – were charged on Wednesday following an anti-narcotics operation in Junction, St. Elizabeth on Tuesday.

They are scheduled to appear before the Black River Parish Court on December 11.

Discovery of contraband

According to reports, the police seized more than six pounds of ganja from the two men, during the operation.

The Narcotics Division revealed that at 11:50 a.m., both individuals arrived at a licensed cannabis facility in Junction to purchase cannabis on behalf of the dispensary.

Following inspection of the designated transport vehicle, the officers found the illegal ganja, amounting to six pounds.

The police were summoned and the two were subsequently detained.

Potential smuggling scheme exposed

The authorities suspect that this incident may be indicative of an elaborate attempt to blend illegal marijuana with its legally sanctioned counterpart.

Superintendent Dwight Daley, the head of the Narcotics Police, issued a stern warning to all licensed cannabis dispensaries, cautioning them against engaging in such practices. He emphasized the potential consequences, including the risk of losing their licenses and facing charges under the Dangerous Drugs Act.
