This decision, announced by Senior Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh, will positively impact thousands of employees across various sectors, including education and security services.

An across-the-board increase of 6.5 increase has been decided upon, set to be implemented later this month.

Widespread benefits and financial impact

This salary increment is not just limited to active public servants but extends to constitutional officeholders and government pensioners as well.

Singh emphasized that the increase, retroactive from January 1, 2023, will affect over 54,000 individuals.

It is projected to inject an additional GYD$7.5 billion in disposable income annually into the economy, directly benefiting the employees.

Special attention to disciplined services

Sing further announced that the government has also decided to pay a one-month tax-free bonus to all members of the disciplined services.

This bonus, benefiting around 12,000 uniformed service members, is expected to add another GUY$1.5 billion in disposable income.

Sing said for the first time, civilian employees of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) will also receive this bonus, marking a significant policy shift.

Efficient implementation and future prospects

Efforts are underway to ensure the timely disbursement of these adjusted salaries and bonuses.

The Minister assured that all concerned parties would receive their due amounts, including the retroactive increases and the one-month tax-free bonus, by the designated pay day in December.

Singh reiterated the government’s commitment to improving the living standards of all worker categories, ensuring brighter prospects and better opportunities in the future.
