It is reported that the cruise ship measures 1,188 feet in length across 18 decks. It can accommodate nearly 7,000 passengers, as well as 2,300 crew members.

Overboard incidents on cruise ships

The latest overboard incident on the Wonder of the Seas marks the sixth such event in just the past three months.

Previous incidents took place on a range of ships, including Carnival Magic, Carnival Elation, Spectrum of the Seas, Emerald Princess, and Mariner of the Seas.

Of these recent cases, only one individual was successfully rescued, highlighting the fatal nature of these incidents.

Although rare, man-overboard situations rank among the leading causes of death for cruise ship passengers. This conclusion is based on research by Travis Heggie, a Bowling Green State University professor specializing in tourism industry health and safety risks.

The increasing frequency of these alarming incidents has drawn attention to safety measures and protocols aboard cruise ships, casting a shadow over an industry known for luxury and leisure.
