In a triumphant return to Grenada, Honourable Lennox Andrews, Minister of Tourism, recently led a delegation to Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom.
The accomplished mission aimed at bolstering Grenada’s tourism industry and fostering international collaborations. The delegation included Mr. Isaac Bhagwan, Permanent Secretary, and Ms. Petra Roach, CEO of the Grenada Tourism Authority.
Promoting green investments at UNWTO World Tourism Day
One of the pivotal highlights of this diplomatic venture was the visit to Saudi Arabia, where the delegation received an invitation from the Saudi government to attend the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) 2023 World Tourism Day.
The event centered around the theme “Tourism and Green Investments.”
UNWTO identified investments as a crucial factor for the revival and expansion of the tourism sector. In response, the call was made to both public and private sectors to collaborate on a successful strategy implementation.
Unveiling the Riyadh School of Tourism and Hospitality
During their time in Saudi Arabia, the delegation witnessed the unveiling of the Riyadh School of Tourism and Hospitality, a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Tourism of Saudi Arabia, Qiddiya, and UNWTO. Discussions with His Excellency Ahmed Al-Khateeb, Minister of Tourism of Saudi Arabia, included prospects for offering scholarships to Grenadian students for enrollment at this prestigious institution.
UK visit strengthens partnerships and awareness
The delegation’s journey continued in the United Kingdom, where they engaged with tour operators and media outlets.
They were joined by Mr. Randall Dolland, Chairman of the Grenada Tourism Authority, in their endeavors. Interviews were conducted with notable trade and consumer journalists, including renowned travel writer and photographer Nigel Tisdall and Katherine Masters, Features Editor at TTG (Travel Trade Gazette).
Positive outlook for Grenada’s winter season
Meetings were held with British Airways and other tour operators, such as Caribtours, who reported robust bookings for the upcoming winter season.
Grenada’s visibility and demand continued to surge, with British Airways maintaining a strong partnership through their thrice-weekly service.
Highlight: GTA-hosted stakeholder dinner
A notable highlight of Minister Andrews’ visit was a stakeholder dinner hosted by the Grenada Tourism Authority.
The event garnered the presence of Her Excellency Racher Croney, newly appointed High Commissioner to the UK. During the dinner, Minister Andrews shared recent initiatives aimed at enhancing Grenada’s tourism sector.
These initiatives encompass the launch of 31 new sculptures for the expansion of the Underwater Sculpture Park and ongoing training programs under the Pure Grenada Excellence Champion program.

Minister Lennox Andrews expressed the government’s unwavering commitment to strengthening partnerships with trade associates and the media.
