The National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD), in collaboration with the Dominican Republic Navy, Air Force, and intelligence agencies, spearheaded the operation near Bayahibe in La Altagracia province.

Coordinated strike against drug trafficking

The operation targeted a speedboat near Saona Island, which was under surveillance by the DNCD and military officers. Upon interception, the team discovered 13 bags on board.

Analysis revealed that nine of these bags contained 224 packages of suspected cocaine, while the remaining four held 98 packages of alleged marijuana, bringing the total to 322 confiscated packages.

During this high-stakes operation, three individuals—a Dominican, a Venezuelan, and a Colombian—were arrested.

These suspects are now facing legal proceedings in La Altagracia province, highlighting the international nature of this drug trafficking attempt.

Seizure of equipment and ongoing investigations

Authorities did not just stop at drug confiscation. They also seized critical equipment including two 40-horsepower outboard engines, five fuel cans, and navigational as well as communication devices which were essential for the traffickers’ operations.

The evidence collected, including 20 cigarette packets, a cell phone, and other items, is part of a broader investigation aimed at dismantling the network responsible for attempting to smuggle large quantities of drugs into the Dominican Republic from South America.

The confiscated drugs were sent to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences to undergo detailed analysis to determine their exact type and weight.
