A British woman and her Jamaican spouse appeared in court on Wednesday after they were charged by narcotics detectives for attempting to smuggle cocaine at the Sangster International Airport in Jamaica.
The discovery was made on May 10 at about 6:40 pm.
Charged are 46-year-old Kay-Ann Anderson, a manager from London, and her spouse, 48-year-old Lekan Olmida, a farmer of Bellefield district in Manchester, Jamaica.
Reports are that Anderson was arrested after one kilogram of cocaine was reportedly found inside her luggage during routine checks.
According to police reports, she was in the process of boarding a flight to England.
The police said further investigations revealed Olmida was Anderson’s alleged accomplice.
The illicit drug is said to have an estimated street value of J$7.7 million.
The two were charged with possession of cocaine, dealing in cocaine, attempting to export cocaine, and conspiracy to export cocaine.
