An estimated magnitude 3.8 earthquake was reported at 2:06 pm in Jamaica on Sunday, according to the island’s Earthquake Unit at the University of the West Indies.
Its epicenter was approximately 10 kilometres south of Hope Bay, Portland. Residents in some communities in and around Kingston reportedly felt the tremor. No damage or injuries have been reported.
This is the fourth major quake reported on the island since September. The largest earthquake in recent months occurred on October 30 and had a magnitude of 5.4.
It was said to be the largest earthquake on the island in 30 years. Minor damage were reported in some communities on the eastern side of the island, and some 70 aftershocks occurred in its aftermath.
It has also been reported that there has been a series of quakes in the Eastern Caribbean since the start of the month, going to as high as a magnitude 6.0 on December 2.
