Guyana offers free knee and hip replacement surgery

In a landmark move, the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) has made a significant decision that promises to enhance the lives of many Guyanese. Individuals in need of knee and hip replacement surgeries are set to benefit from a groundbreaking policy change: these operations will now be provided at no cost.

The GPHC has taken a leap from offering knee and hip replacement surgeries at a subsidized cost.

This strategic move is part of a broader initiative to make critical healthcare services more accessible to the population.

A unanimous decision for better healthcare

The GPHC’s board recently approved a proposal to eliminate surgery fees, showcasing a unified front in the battle against joint morbidity.

Robbie Rambarran, the CEO of GPHC, expressed that the aim is to improve patients’ quality of life. 

By offering these essential surgeries free of charge, the hospital is set to empower those suffering from severe joint issues to regain mobility and live without pain.
