Veteran Jamaican educator and actor Ronald Goshop has died at age 72. The actor was reportedly found unresponsive at his home on Wednesday morning.
Goshop gained fame in the early ’90s for the character ‘Mackie’ on the hit TV show Royal Palm Estate. The character, known for his wit and charm, became a household name across the island, cementing Goshop’s place in the annals of Jamaican television history. His work in Royal Palm Estate was celebrated for its authenticity and depth, earning him accolades and a loyal fan base.
He also notably appeared in The Mighty Quinn.
Goshop is remembered not only for his years of service to the theatre, but also the classroom, where he spent 25 years as an educator. Goshop’s passion for teaching was evident in his commitment to the classroom, where he was known as a compassionate and inspiring educator. He taught English and Drama, using his extensive experience in theatre to bring a dynamic and engaging approach to learning. Former students remember him as a mentor who not only imparted knowledge but also instilled in them a love for the arts.
