St Kitts and Nevis-born Calypsonian Hansill “Richie” Buntin won the 2023 St Thomas Carnival Calypso Monarch on Sunday.
Livingston “X-Man” Harris and 2018 champion Lucas “John Gotty” Evans were placed second and third.
Richie’s two performances comprised of his songs “V.I. Unity” which was inspired by a return to the territory in 2020, after moving to the States 40 years ago, and “Vitamin C”, which is about preserving Caribbean traditions.
Richie received congratulations from the St. Kitts and Nevis Carnival Commission for being both the 2013 Sugar Mas Calypso Monarch and the first Soca Monarch of the nation.
“Huge congratulations to Hansill Richie Buntin, the newly crowned Calypso Monarch of the US Virgin Islands! We wish Richie a successful year of reign and eagerly await his return to the calypso arena in the Federation!,” the commission said.
