‘Generation of Kings’ the new album from dancehall artiste Masicka, which was released on Friday, debuted in the top spot on the Top 100 Reggae Albums iTunes Chart.
The 17-track album pushed ‘Legend’ by Bob Marley and The Wailers album to number two on the chart on Friday, claiming the number 1 spot, and still occupies that position.
The album also debuted at number 1 on Apple Music in 13 Caribbean countries including Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Belize, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and The Grenadines, and Turks and Caicos.
It is also the first time in history that an artiste charted 17 songs in the top 20 on Apple Music Jamaica chart, a record previously held by dancehall newcomer Valiant who charted 5 songs in the top ten last year, according to World Music Views.
‘Generation of Kings’ was released through the US record label Def Jams Recordings, and features Jamaican artistes such as Popcaan, Dexta Daps, Spice, Chronic Law, and Lila Iké.
A release from Masicka’s team stated that the expectation of the album is to find new markets for the Jamaican deejay, who is now based in South Florida.
“Expanding the fan base and tapping into new markets is the aim for us, numbers will happen eventually,” his team said.
Masicka also featured Afrobeats singer Fave and Haitian-American singer Fridayy on the album.
Producers on the album include Masicka as well as, Boi-1da, Atto Wallance, Moz ‘Mozeeko’ Hamm, and Donald ‘Razzy’ Chen, Mario ‘Dunw3ll’.
Masicka’s debut album ‘438’ released in 2021 has also charted at number 1. It was the first project to spend an entire year in the Top 10 on Apple Music Jamaica.
